Stats: Lewandowski equals Messi, Haaland fastest to 10 in Premier League history

Manchester United may have ended Arsenal's winning start to the season, but thanks to Aston Villa holding Manchester City to a draw, Arsenal still lead the Premier League (PL) table by a point. Tottenham Hotspur, in third, and Brighton & Hove Albion, in fourth, both registered wins to keep things tight.

SC Freiburg are now surprise early leaders of the Bundesliga after Bayern Munich were held to a second consecutive draw, this time by high flying Union Berlin. Napoli top Serie A after beating Lazio, they are tied on points with AC Milan who beat Inter in a thrilling derby. In Ligue 1, PSG and Marseille remain tied atop the standings, while Real Madrid are the only team across Europe's top five leagues to have a 100% record still.

By The Numbers brings you the best stats from this cracking weekend of football:

PREMIER LEAGUE

2

Ivan Toney has 2 PL hat tricks for Brentford in 2022. To put this in context, the club hadn't had a top-flight hat trick since 1937 previously.

10

Erling Haaland can't stop scoring. He already has 10: the earliest into a PL season that anyone has hit double digits. Across Europe's top 5 leagues (since 2010-11), he's the fifth different player to score 10+ goals through the first six matchdays of a season after Lionel Messi, Paolo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski (twice). Of the lot everyone hit 10, except Messi (who had 11 in 2011/12).

16

Leicester City are the 16th team to have one or less points through the first six games of a PL season. Of the previous 15, only five went on to avoid relegation: Blackburn (1996-97), Southampton (1998-99), Newcastle (1999-2000), Sunderland (2013-14) and Burnley (2020-21).

21

Antony is the 21st player to score on their PL debut for Manchester United. He's also the 100th different Brazilian to play in the PL.

23

Bruno Fernandes's 23 assists in open play in the PL is the most of any player in the competition since his debut (Feb 1 2020).

36

Everton v Liverpool has seen more goalless draws than any fixture in both English top-flight history (36) and PL era history (12).

LALIGA

5

Robert Lewandowski (five goals scored) is the only player other than Messi (also five) to score five or more goals in the first four LaLiga matches of a season for Barcelona this century.

5

Real Madrid have started the season with five straight victories in all competitions for the first time since 2016-17 (won first 6 matches that season).

6

Martin Braithwaite is the 6th player to score for both Barcelona and Espanyol in LaLiga since 1998-99: The others are Dani, Simao, Oscar, Aleix Vidal and Philippe Coutinho.

LIGUE 1

126

Kylian Mbappe has scored 126 Ligue goals for PSG (a reminder, he had scored 16 for Monaco too). Mbappe is now 12 away from tying Edinson Cavani as the club's all-time leading scorer in Ligue 1.

SERIE A

1

Rafael Leao is the first Portuguese player to score in the Milan Derby, including all competitions

2

Roma's 0-4 loss to Udinese was Jose Mourinho's biggest ever defeat in Serie A, and is tied for second biggest league defeat in his managerial career (Chelsea 4-0 Man United). The only time a Mourinho team has lost a league game by five or more goals was against Barcelona in 2010 (5-0).

2

AC Milan have won consecutive Milan derbies in league play for the first time since 2010-11.

RONALDO MESSI WATCH

0

Cristiano Ronaldo is still looking for his first goal of the season (6 games played); this is the fifth longest scoreless drought to start the season in his career after 04/05 (16 games), 05/06 (11 games), 03/04 (11 games), 07/08 (8 games).

18

Lionel Messi has the most assists, 18, of any player in Europe's top 5 leagues this calendar year. He has 6 already this season.
