CONMEBOL rejects request to hear Morocco's 2026 World Cup pitch - sources

Morocco's campaign to the host the 2026 World Cup was dealt a blow as CONMEBOL rejected a request from the African nation to make a final presentation of its bid ahead of next week's vote in Moscow, sources told ESPN FC.

The FIFA Congress is due to vote to decide the 2026 hosts on June 13, with Morocco competing against the United bid of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

But South American confederation CONMEBOL, having publicly pledged its 10 votes to the United bid in April, turned down the opportunity to hear the Morocco campaign leaders making a final pitch in Moscow.

Sources told ESPN FC that all the other confederations will allow bid teams to present to them in Moscow next week.

In a response to Morocco 2026 seen by ESPN FC, the CONMEBOL president's office wrote: 'Thank you very much for your contact and your request to present Morocco 2026 BID to Conmebol Members.

"We have to answer with a refusal to your request due to the fact that the time available for presentations at the Moscow meeting will be limited, and especially taking into account that recently in May, your BID has already presented the project to our Council Members.

'Please also consider that CONMEBOL has confirmed its commitment to support the Canada, Mexico and USA bid."
