Former Chelsea junior Fabio Ferriera poised to move to PKNS FC

PKNS FC are on the verge of signing former Chelsea junior Fabio Ferreira in the second transfer window as they aim to hold onto their Malaysia Super League (MSL) status.

E. Elavarasan's team have been erratic performers in the MSL, with only two victories after 13 games to sit in ninth place.

The team management are also believed to have lost patience with underperforming imports Matias Hadwa and Gonzalo Soto, who could be on their way out.

"I had said that I would not bring in any imports for the second transfer window, but now I have no choice but to bring in reinforcements for the second half of the season. We have identified a few players, but are waiting for approval from the management," Elavarasan told Berita Harian.

Former Portugal U19 winger Ferreira would be an ideal fit for PKNS, with his impressive dribbling and able to create opportunities.

For Central Coast Mariners, Ferreira struck 15 times in 55 appearances in the A-League between 2015 and 2017. Before that, he was part of a successful Adelaide United side under Spaniard Josep Gombau, with 51 games and 13 goals over three years.

Ferreira, 28, joined Chelsea during Jose Mourinho's first stint with the club in 2005, but never made a first team appearance.

The Red Ants could certainly use someone of his quality to add to the 22 goals they have scored in 13 MSL matches in 2017.

In the 1-0 defeat against leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Wednesday, PKNS had numerous chances to score, but were let by poor finishing.

That game may have been Hadwa's final game for the club after missing one of the biggest sitters of the season so far. He should have equalised immediately after JDT scored, but somehow failed to convert from two metres out.

The predicament of PKNS will be of genuine concern to their management, who set the target of a top-five finish at a glitzy team unveiling at the start of the year.

Elavarasan is also reportedly testing out two South Koreans to fill in for the soon-to-be-departed duo. The other imports in the team are Patrick "Ronaldinho" Wleh and Lucas Espindola.
