A-League import Fabio Ferreira targets Malaysia Cup final with PKNS

Direct from Australia's A-League, former Chelsea junior Fabio Ferreira has the lofty ambition of taking his new team PKNS FC to the 2017 Malaysia Cup final.

Portugal-born Ferreira, who spent the last five seasons with Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United, arrived in Malaysia last month during the mid-season transfer window.

"I do not really know much about the Malaysian league, but I am excited to be here with PKNS and believe I can acclimatise myself quickly," Ferreira told Harian Metro.

"I have faith we can qualify for the Malaysia Cup final if we work hard as a unit. It is not an impossible target, as we also made the FA Cup final last year."

PKNS are in Group B of the Malaysia Cup, with Perak, Felda United and Kuala Lumpur.

Ferreira, who scored 15 goals in 55 appearances for Central Coast from 2015-2017, is a smooth operator on right wing, with the ability to score from a tight angle.

His knack for finding an astute final pass also bodes well for E. Elavarasan's charges, who are one of the higher scoring teams in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) on 22 goals.

But despite a decent goal return, PKNS lie ninth in the 12-team standings, and Ferreira wants that to change as well.

"We need to move up the table. I think we have a good squad with a few other new faces, and it's only a matter of time before we get the right chemistry with each other."

In addition to Ferreira, PKNS have also signed Gambian defender Abdou Jammeh and South Korean versatile wing-back Park Kwang-il.

PKNS will host Melaka United at Shah Alam Stadium upon the resumption of MSL on July 1.

Ferreira came to Chelsea as a 16-year-old when Jose Mourinho was manager. He scored eight goals in 12 appearances for the Chelsea reserves in the 2007-2008 season.
