Selangor top Group D with JDT after beat Sarawak in Malaysia Cup

Selangor moved joint top with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in Group D of the Malaysia Cup after overcoming Sarawak 2-1, with a Demerson Bruno Costa own goal proving the difference between the sides in Kuching on Saturday night.

JDT were held to a surprise 0-0 draw at second-tier Terengganu the previous night.

Elsewhere, Melaka United threw Group C wide open after thrashing Kelantan 3-0 at their own Hang Jebat Stadium.

Croatian striker Marko Simic gave the Mousedeers a 20th minute lead before R. Surendran put the hosts in the driving seat with another goal 10 minutes later.

Former Pahang striker Fauzi Roslan completed the victory five minutes after the restart, as Eduardo Almeida aims to get his new charges back on track after a poor first half of the season under Eric Williams.

Selangor, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by Terengganu on Tuesday, took the game to their opponents from kick off, with Andik Vermansyah and Amri Yahyah coming close early on.

Their breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Francis Forkey Doe connected with Andik's corner for his seventh goal of the season.

The 33-time champions extended their lead in the 65th minute after former Chapecoense defender Demerson turned into his own net to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Sarawak grabbed a lifeline when Shreen Tambi pulled one back for the Crocs, but David Usop's men failed to conjure up an equaliser as Selangor took home all three points.

Victory puts P. Maniam's men on four points with JDT, while Sarawak are rooted after losing both their games so far.

They had also lost 4-0 to JDT at Larkin Stadium on Tuesday.

The final action of the weekend took place in Group B where Felda United came from behind to beat PKNS FC 2-1, thanks to Thiago Augustu's late winner.

The Red Ants surged to an early lead through Patrick Wleh's fifth-minute strike.

But Felda fired back through Liberian playmaker Zah Rahan Krangar's first-half injury time equaliser.

Then Augustu, who returned to the team for a second stint last month, struck late to give his side all three points.

Victory firms Felda's spot in second, while PKNS stay bottom after losing both their opening Malaysia Cup games.
