Striker Francis Forkey Doe believes Selangor have what it takes to lift a 34th Malaysia Cup title after a 2-1 win over Sarawak on Saturday night to take them joint top of Group D. The Liberian scored the opening goal as the Red Giants secured a precious victory on the road in Kuching. "For me, it is not impossible for us to make the final again after the achievements of 2015 and last year," Doe said. "The players' understanding and communication with each other is getting better, and it is showing with each game. So it not out of reach for us to reach not only the final, but also to win it." Doe's future with the 33-time winners looked in doubt after he was remanded by police for possession for an unauthorised vehicle in May. But the state team stood by him, and the Liberian hit man is repaying their loyalty with his seventh goal of the season. Victory keeps Selangor in second place on four points in Group D with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), who were held to a goalless draw at Terengganu on Friday. Selangor will next face the Southern Tigers at Shah Alam Stadium on July 18. JDT coach Ulisses Morais, meanwhile, sent a message of encouragement to his fringe players who featured against Terengganu. "JDT have 29 players in total. I feel the Malaysia Cup can give them playing opportunities because we as the coaching staff believe in them. That is the important thing," said Morais via the Southern Tigers Facebook page. "In general, it was a great match and we had to fight until the very end because Terengganu had many goalscoring chances like JDT. Terengganu are a great side with good players. But the important thing is our players did well and contributed a point." The new Portuguese boss will use the competition as way of gauging his players' performances during the season. JDT are heavy favourites for the league title with a nine-point lead, so winning the Malaysia Cup will be important for the Portuguese to justify his appointment after replacing Mexico's Benjamin Mora.
