Home United beat Brunei DPMM, move into Singapore Cup semis

Faris Ramli scored in his fourth successive game against Brunei DPMM as Home United breezed into the semifinals of the Singapore Cup on Wednesday night.

The S.League outfit won 6-2 on aggregate after a 3-1 comeback win in the quarterfinal, second-leg tie at Bishan Stadium.

The success comes exactly a week after Home's painful exit from the AFC Cup after losing the ASEAN zonal final to Ceres-Negros, of the Philippines.

Just like in the first leg, the Protectors conceded first, but managed to come away with a victory.

In a closely-fought first half, Home winger Christopher van Huizen went the closest with a venomous shot that crashed against the crossbar on 13 minutes.

It was a completely different second half, though, as DPMM broke the deadlock on 48 minutes.

Helmi Zambin dispossessed Song Uiyoung in the attacking third before slipping the ball in between the legs of Home goalkeeper Hassan Sunny to put the Wasps within a goal of levelling the tie.

However, the introduction of young substitute Iqram Rifqi on 63 minutes turned the game around for Home United.

Within a minute of replacing Song, the 21-year-old got into the attacking third to square across goal for Faris to convert for his seventh goal in four games against DPMM this season.

Faris had scored in a 3-1 S.League win in Bandar Seri Begawan before grabbing four goals in the incredible 9-3 league victory at Bishan, and two in the 3-1 Singapore Cup first-leg win at Jalan Besar three nights ago.

Now leading 4-2 on aggregate, Aidil Sharin's side sealed victory emphatically with two goals in the last four minutes.

First, Iqram broke free in the box to fire home from close range in the 86th minute.

Then experienced right-back Juma'at Jantan strode onto Stipe Plazibat's through ball before slotting beyond the onrushing DPMM custodian Awangku Mu'izzuddin deep into added time.

Home will face cup holders Albirex Niigata (S) in the last four, while Hougang United and Philippines outfit Global-Cebu face off in the other two-legged semi-final.

The matches will be played between Sep. 24 to 30.
