Borussia Dortmund tracking Gremio's Victor Bobsin - sources

DORTMUND, Germany -- Borussia Dortmund are showing interest in Gremio's 18-year-old defensive midfielder Victor Bobsin, sources have told ESPN FC.

Bobsin, whose current deal ends in 2019, plays for the under-20s of the Porto Alegre-based side. He managed to gain the attention of European clubs last October during the Under-17 World Cup in India, where he was a starter in holding midfield in all seven games for Brazil.

The 1.85-metre tall youngster started out as a defender but has found his position in front of the defence protecting and dictating the speed of the game. He has drawn comparisons to Barcelona's Sergio Busquets due to combining robustness and technical skill with a strategic sense.

Dortmund, who are planning a rebuild in the summer are actively looking to add a new defensive midfielder to their ranks. The Ruhr side have also been linked with RB Salzburg's Diadie Samassekou.

In Bobsin's case, the Black and Yellows will have to compete for a signature with Bayern Munich, Ajax, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, who are also scouting the Gremio prodigy, according to sources. Barcelona also registered their interest to Gremio while signing his teammate Arthur Melo in January.

However, it remains to be seen whether European clubs will be able to lure the talent away from his home country in the summer. In January, Bobsin told Globo Esporte that he has made it his goal to make a name for himself in Gremio's senior team before leaving the club.
