TOP STORY: Ramos issues Pogba plea
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was adamant all summer that he wanted his team to move Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, but there's another big name at the club that also thinks it's a good idea: Sergio Ramos.
The Madrid captain told the Express that he thinks Los Blancos' attack could use a player with the qualities of Pogba, saying: "For me, Pogba is one of the great players. I think he brings balance to a team. He has a great offensive influence and he has this amazing physique."
The summer saga did not end how Zidane or Pogba might have liked, with United unwilling to part ways with the France international, despite his expressed desire to find a new challenge away from Old Trafford.
But hope springs eternal for Pogba with the endorsement from Ramos, with the report suggesting a move could come as soon as the winter window.

21.50 BST: Real Madrid CEO Florentino Perez has put a scare into European clubs hoping to hold onto their top players in January.
The Spanish chief told Marca "We have never invested so much in players even though we already had a great squad.
"We are working to bring great players in the future."
Those alarms sounding are at Tottenham and Manchester United, who face battles to keep star midfielders Christian Eriksen and Paul Pogba. The Galacticos are back...
20.43 BST: Could Arsenal have had Jadon Sancho?
In a Q and A with BeIn Sport, former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recalled how much he wanted the Borussia Dortmund and England winger.
"I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn't get the games.
"I tried to lure him because he's from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal. He's one of the best players of his generation. He can dribble, he has the arrogance.
"There's something in there that is part of the big players. You can call it arrogance, confidence, belief; but it has to be there," said the Frenchman. Sancho left City for Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
19.31 BST: Chelsea are in the midst of a two-window transfer ban but there is a chance the ban could be lifted early in January.
Chelsea are currently contesting that ban and remain hopeful that the ban could be overturned so that they can sign new recruits in the winter transfer window. If that is the case, The Daily Mail suggests the club could launch a £35 million bid for Nice full-back Youcef Atal.
The 23-year-old defender is one of the more promising youngsters in Ligue 1 and recently won the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria.
18.56 BST: Are Man United close to signing a pair of regulars to contract extensions?
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport's Nicola Schira claims that the Red Devils are in fact working on a pair of deals.

It is no surprise that United want to lock up Victor Lindelof, as he has become a strong starter for United, but Jesse Lingard, who has struggled in the past year, is a much more interesting case.
United have struggled out of the gates this season and currently sit eighth on five points through four games.
18.11 BST: Ghanaian Abdul Majeed Waris and his representatives are fuming that the player did not get his desired move this summer.
The player's agent Yussif Alhassan Chibsah has slammed Spanish side Alaves' behaviour in making a late U-turn and ultimately not signing his client.
"To be honest Majeed is already looking ahead after this disappointing and unprofessional episode in Spain," Chibsah told BBC Sport.
"He had three other options in France but after undergoing a medical and everything was agreed between both clubs, Alaves pulled out.
"They came out to apologise to us but it was already too late.
"This is purely unprofessional and Alaves could've done things in a better way."
Waris, who played last season on loan at Nantes, is back in Porto and hoping to earn his spot for the time being.
17.25 BST: A veteran member of Chelsea's 'loan army' has spoken out about his future at the club.
Midfielder Lucas Piazon, who is on a two-year loan at Rio Ave, his seventh loan from Stamford Bridge, recently signed a contract extension with the Blues but don't let that fool you.
"My time at Chelsea is over," the Brazilian attacking midfielder told Portuguese outlet A Bola. "I'm 25, I've been on loan several times.
"I've been at Chelsea since 2011, I've been on loan almost all over Europe. I'm tired of playing here and there, I need a place where I can feel at home. I want to know that in July I will return to the same place, to the same house."
Piazon, who has been loaned to Malaga, Vitesse, Frankfurt, Reading, Fulham, Chievo and now Rio Ave, is expected to join the Portuguese club on a permanent basis this summer.
16.41 BST: Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir has hit out at the "lies" surrounding his summer of 2018, when the player almost signed for Liverpool from former club Lyon.
Reports claimed that Fekir, who became a World Cup winner in France earlier that summer, had a knee injury, causing the Premier League club to pull out of the deal.
However, Fekir reportedly told French news outlet L'Equipe: "Lots of lies were told and they affected me. My knee is good -- I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine [France's national training base] -- my knee wasn't even mentioned.
"If my knee had been in such a bad state, would Aulas (Lyon chairman Jean-Michel) have made [a huge offer to keep me]?
"I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me. At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee -- but an excuse needed to be found."

15.10 BST: Reports in Spain claim Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has opened up about the club's transfer activity over the summer which saw them sign Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and linked with interest in Paul Pogba and Neymar.

14.30 BST: Diego Costa has said nobody at Atletico Madrid holds any resentment towards Antoine Griezmann about his decision to quit for Barcelona this summer.
The move was the cause of some controversy between the clubs over the summer, but with Griezmann's former teammates at least, everything is cool
"Griezmann's dream was to play with [Lionel] Messi," Costa said. "We can't speak badly about him"
13.56 BST: Former Netherlands international Giovanni van Bronckhorst is spending time at Manchester City but is not being lined up for a top job at the Etihad Stadium, sources have told ESPN FC.
Van Bronckhorst, capped 106 times, has been out of work since he quit Feyenoord in the summer and City have agreed to let the 44-year-old behind the scenes at the City Football Academy and other clubs within the City Football Group including New York City.
He will have the chance to observe training and speak to coaches and staff about issues on and off the pitch to gain more experience.
12.54 BST: Barcelona are considering a move for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, Mundo Deportivo reports.
The Catalonia-based outlet claims that Barca could have signed the 23-year-old from Real Betis at various points i the past for as little as €6m.
However, due to the Spain international's blossoming career in Serie a and with the national team, the Spanish champions can now expect to pay closer to €60m for his services.
12.04 BST: Premier League champions Manchester City are the first team in football history to spend more than €1 billion to assemble their squad, a study has shown.
Data from the Swiss-based CIES Football Observatory showed that Pep Guardiola's club spent €1.014bn on their group of players.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain were second having spent €913 million and Spain's Real Madrid were third with €902m.
Manchester United (€751m) have the second-most expensive squad in the Premier League followed by Champions League winners Liverpool (€639m).
This study follows a report from Deloitte which showed European clubs from the "big five" leagues spent over €5bn during the summer transfer window for the first time.
11.24 BST: Paris Saint-Germain target Lisandru Tramoni has opened up about his failed summer move to the French champions in L'Equipe.
The 16-year-old midfielder, who is on the books at Ligue 2 club Ajaccio, had been linked with a move to Parc des Princes early in the summer transfer window. However, a change in the PSG hierarchy has seen him remain at his boyhood club for now.
"In May, everything was agreed," he said. "However Antero Henrique being replaced by Leonardo as sporting director slowed things right down."
10.38 BST: Liverpool have triggered an option to extend Joel Matip's contract by a year, the Daily Mirror reports.
Matip's deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, but the 28-year-old Cameroon international is now set to take his time a tanfield to at least five years by staying on until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
10.02 BST: Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will finally end speculation over his future by signing a new contract, according to The Guardian.
Sources told ESPN FC in July that the Spain international was close to agreeing a new deal after 18 months of talks.
Now the Guardian reports that the 28-year-old will soon put pen to paper on terms that will earn him close to £300,000 a week, putting his pay on a par with United's top earner, Paul Pogba.
De Gea, who almost left for Real Madrid in 2015, has been at United since 2011. His current deal expires at the end of the season.
09.32 BST: Filipe Luis has had his say on Neymar's transfer saga over the summer, believing his Brazil teammate wanted to leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar had at one point looked close to a return to Barcelona, while Real Madird were also known to be interested in signing the striker, but in the end the deadline passed without a deal being struck.
"I don't know [if he wanted to leave]," former Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis told Marca. "I want to believe he did, because if he didn't then his name wouldn't have been heard every day for two months. But leaving Paris Saint-Germain isn't easy because they don't usually sell.
"I see him as being calm since saying he'd stay. He can develop at PSG. They also have [Kylian] Mbappe, [Mauro] Icardi and [Edinson] Cavani. It's important that they win something."
08.58 BST: Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has likened his transfer to Sevilla this summer to his arrival at Manchester United or Real Madrid. The Mexico international joined Sevilla on a permanent transfer from West Ham before the transfer deadline.
"For me, to join Sevilla was like when I went to Manchester or to Real Madrid, it's a top A club," he told TUDN while on international duty. "I feel like a little boy, I know I face an important challenge."
Hernandez had to cut his wages to join Sevilla but says it's worth it, adding: "You have no clue how eager I was to join this club. I know what Sevilla means since I was in Mexico and I'm very enthusiastic to give my all, enjoy it knowing what this opportunity means."
08.27 BST: James Rodriguez hopes this will be his season at Real Madrid after he was widely expected to leave the club permanently this summer.
The Colombia attacker returned to Spain after his two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich ended in June. Napoli and Atletico Madrid were among the clubs keen to acquire his services, but the 28-year-old hopes he can rejuvenate his career at the Bernabeu.
"I hope this is my season at Real Madrid," James told El Chiringuito TV. "It's obvious that I'm excited about the season."
James added he is "happy" that coach Zínedine Zidane has regained his trust in him. Asked about his current relationship with Zidane, which had not been good in the past, he said: "We are well."
08.00 BST: Tottenham had shown "concrete interest" in a summer move for Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to the player's agent.
Zaniolo, 20, had a breakout season in 2018-19, making his debut in the Champions League at Real Madrid before going on to make 36 club appearances and also win his first senior caps for Italy.
Spurs eventually signed Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis before the August transfer deadline, but Zaniolo's agent, Claudio Vigorelli, told the Daily Mail that Zaniolo had been their preferred target.
"[Zaniolo] renewed with Roma and is fine at Roma but obviously we enjoyed the great interest of Tottenham, who were the runners up in the Champions League," Vigorelli said. "Their concrete interest in him shows how good the boy's season was.
"Spurs thought a lot about Nicolo before taking Lo Celso, they focused their attention on him seriously, more than any other club even beyond the Premier League.
"I can say that only Mauricio Pochettino's club has carried out such in-depth market analysis in England."
PAPER TALK (by Richard Edwards): Eriksen is Madrid's option 1A
Should a move for Pogba not materialise, Real Madrid would turn their focus to Tottenham and Denmark playmaker Christian Eriksen, according to Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2019-20 season and could shockingly be available for free, with Sky saying that Eriksen would be option 1A if Pogba decided to stay on at Man United.
Eriksen has 50 goals to his credit in 210 appearances across all competitions, but the contract impasse between him and the club doesn't look like it will be resolved, meaning Spurs could lose out on any return on their investment on the former Ajax man.
Barca in hurry up and wait mode for Emerson
Contracts can get complicated in La Liga. Just ask Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan, the Real Betis managing director, Brazilian full-back Emerson and those in charge of the purse strings at Barcelona.
Speaking to Marca, the man from Real Betis, outlined how the 20-year-old's rights were snapped up by Barcelona for €12m when they signed him from Atletico Mineiro earlier this year. Half of those rights were then sold to Betis, with the player then staying in Andalusia until 2021.
Then Barcelona can decide if they want him to bring him to the Nou Camp, with Lopez Catalan confirming that Barca can't swoop before that time is up. Everything clear?

- Maurizio Sarri was all that stood between Manchester United and their attempts to bring Douglas Costa from Juventus to Old Trafford this summer. Costa's on-pitch time was limited in Turin last season, with a succession of injuries curtailing his involvement. But his agent, Giovanni Branchini, told the Daily Mail that they would probably have got their man were it not for the new Juve boss.
- It has been all go at Watford so far this season but one player not going anywhere is Dimitri Foulquier, who spent last season on loan at Getafe from the Hornets. The Spanish side were keen on getting him back again for this campaign but Watford refused -- slapping a €2m price tag on the player. Marca reports that ended up scuppering the deal.
