TOP STORY: Beckham wants Messi in Miami

David Beckham has approached Lionel Messi about a sensational move to Inter Miami when the expansion club debuts in Major League Soccer next season, the Sun cites Barcelona Radio as reporting.

Beckham's new club launches in March 2020, and Messi reportedly is available to leave the Spanish champions for nothing this summer, thanks to a contract that allows him to join a club outside of Europe for free at the end of each season.

Beckham has admitted he's searching the world for elite-level players, which is why the Inter Miami owner is starting at the top of the tree. He has also admitted he's keen on approaching Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani both have been linked with moves to South Beach.

Barcelona Radio's Xavi Campos is reporting that this potentially "huge" deal "interests" the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. However, Barca chief Josep Maria Bartomeu insists the club are keen to keep their star man until 2022 at the very least. Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo recently suggested Barca were ready to offer Messi a lifetime contract, which would keep him at Camp Nou until the end of his career.

21.52 BST: We're going to bring Wednesday's live edition of Transfer Talk to a close with some eyebrow-raising reporting coming out of Spain. Valencia sacked manager Marcelino this morning, despite leading the club to back-to-back Champions League group stages and winning the Copa del Rey last spring, and Goal now writes that Marcelino's dismissal comes after a months-long power struggle between owner Peter Lim and his manager and sporting director Mateu Alemany, with Lim seeking "more control over player transfers and sporting decisions."

20.35 BST: Jose Callejon's Napoli deal has less than 12 months left to run, and it doesn't seem as though negotiations over a new contract are going all that well.

"Napoli has not called me for a month; I suppose we will hear again now that the transfer market has ended," agent Manuel Garcia Quilon is quoted as saying, according to Calciomercato, which cites an interview with CalcioNapoli24.it. "There was the first proposal, but it did not satisfy the conditions of the player."

19.18 BST: Liverpool's highly rated academy forward Paul Glatzel has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in February and was rewarded with improved terms on Wednesday after a sensational 2018-19 campaign. Read the full story.

18.01 BST: A day after multiple British outlets suggested that Chelsea have opened talks with the representatives of Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya to negotiate a move to Stamford Bridge the moment their transfer ban is lifted, Valencian outlet Super Deporte reports that the 24-year-old has no knowledge of the West London club's interest.

16.44 BST: In a bid to ensure they don't lose the 20-year-old goalkeeper for less than market value following a summer of flirtations with Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan have opened contract negotiations with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Calciomercato cites Corriere dello Sport as reporting. There's just one problem: the Rossoneri are actually hoping the Italy international will take a pay cut. Good luck with that one.

15.27 BST: Real Madrid are preparing a January bid for Paul Pogba, and they could send Toni Kroos the other way as part of a potential deal, El Chiringuto host Eduardo Inda reports.

Pogba made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear over the course of the summer, saying he wanted a "new challenge". Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move with Pogba's compatriot Zinedine Zidane a long-term admirer, but Manchester United were clear in not wanting to sell.

Real Madrid are unlikely to give up their pursuit of Pogba, however. At the launch of his new documentary, club captain Sergio Ramos said the door was always open for Pogba to move to the Bernabeu.

"I think Real Madrid always has the door open for good players such as him," Ramos told the Daily Express.

"For me, Pogba is one of the great players.

"He is different and he has shown his value at Juventus and now Manchester United.

"I think he brings balance to a team. He has a great offensive influence and he has this amazing physique."

14.42 BST: Iñaki Williams says Manchester United were interested in making a move for him before he signed a new nine-year deal with La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly viewed Williams as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian's move to Inter, but Williams insists he always preferred committing to his hometown club.

"I had contact from Manchester United but I cannot tell you who it was," Williams told El Larguero.

"My No. 1 option has always been to stay at Athletic Club and to retire here. Joining Real Sociedad? No, I could never go there. 100 per cent."

The 25-year-old's new deal, which is one of the longest contracts ever handed to a player in Europe, has a £125m release clause.

13.54 BST: Rumours linking Paulo Dybala with a move away from Juventus refuse to go away after the Argentine turned down moves to Premier League sides Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur last month.

And now, Italian newspaper Tuttosport claim Paris Saint-Germain are keen on launching a January move for the 24-cap international.

Dybala has seen just 14 minutes worth of action so far this season in Juventus' opening two Serie A games against Parma and Napoli, sparking questions over whether Dybala's long-term future lays in Turin.

Tuttosport add that PSG will face competition from Spurs, who are ready to break the bank to rekindle their interest in Dybala, while Manchester United could also launch another bid to bring Dybala to Old Trafford.

13.08 BST: Roma legends Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti could be reunited again at Boca Juniors -- but it's not what you think!

"Totti called me: he wants to come to La Bombonera to watch the match," Nicolas Burdisso, who  played for Roma but is now a Boca director, told CNN.

"He wasn't the only one though: many want to come here to Buenos Aires."

12.18 BST: Manchester City are still hopeful of convincing Leroy Sane to sign a new contract to ward off interest from Bayern Munich, the Evening Standard reports.

Sane was Bayern's top target last season before he suffered a serious knee injury, after which the Bundesliga champions brought in Philippe Coutinho on a season-long loan.

City new hope to tie down the Germany international to a new contract before he makes his expected return to action in February, with the aim of prohibiting a move from Bayern in next summer's transfer window.

11.27 BST: Barcelona will still do everything they can to bring Neymar back to the club despite their failed attempt in the summer, according to Barca director Javier Bordas.

Return to the Camp Nou had appeared to be on the cards for Neymar, just two years after his world-record €222m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. All three parties were keen for the move to happen, but in the end a deal could not be struck.

"While he wants to come, we will do what we can to bring him back," Marca quotes Bordas as telling Spanish-language agency EFE. "What happens will happen, everything is constantly changing in football, but Neymar is Neymar.

"The case of Neymar is a special one. He's an exceptional player and he wants to come to Barcelona; he hasn't adapted to Paris; he was wrong to go there, and even he has said that."

10.59 BST: Diego Simeone's youngest son, Giuliano, is set to join Atletico Madrid's youth academy, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 17-year-old striker was playing for River Plate's youth teams before deciding this summer to move to Spain for personal reasons. Giuliano wants to continue playing football and has chosen to join Atletico, the club where his father is head coach.

A source close to the Spanish club told ESPN FC on Wednesday that Atletico are waiting FIFA's approval regarding Simeone's license in order to register the player and added that there will be no transfer or compensation involved. If completed, Giuliano, who has dual nationality and holds a European passport, will be Simeone's first son to play for Atletico.

Giuliano's eldest brother Giovanni, 24, joined Cagliari on a season-long loan from Fiorentina this summer while the 21-year-old Gianluca is in the books of Spanish third-division side Ibiza on loan from Argentine outfit Gimnasia y Esgrima.

10.31 BST: Napoli's Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he offered big money to Inter Milan and a huge signing-on fee to Mauro Icardi in an attempt to sign the Argentine forward this summer.

Icardi's public fall-out with Inter last season made a summer move all but inevitable, and he eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain shortly before the Sept. 2 deadline. However, that was only after Napoli made a big play for the 26-year-old.

"I offered Inter Milan €60m plus bonuses to buy Mauro Icardi," De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport. "I offered a contract of a gross total of around €12m to [Icardi's wife and agent] Wanda Nara.

"Mauro is not stupid, so perhaps he understood that PSG were a better option to get back to the European level -- he can excel more easily there than with Napoli. No regrets. Icardi coming would have prevented the signing of Fernando Llorente."

09.57 BST: Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel has yet to decide his next career move amid talk of a possible shock transfer to fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old is in the final year of his contract and could leave the Bundesliga side for free next summer.

Likened to former Schalke shot-stopper Manuel Neuer, Royal Blues captain Nubel has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, while a move to his club's bitter local rivals Dortmund could also not be silenced by his agent.

"There is no news," Nubel told reporters at Schalke's training ground on Tuesday. "It's not an easy decision."

09.29 BST: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told Philippe Coutinho that he is happy about his move to Bayern Munich, the Brazil international revealed to Sport Bild.

Having left Liverpool for Barcelona in January 2018, Coutinho was put on the market by the Spanish champions this summer after an underwhelming 18 months at the Camp Nou, and the European champions were even briefly linked with re-signing him. However, Bayern seized the opportunity, getting the 27-year-old to a one-year loan with an option to sign him permanently for €120m next summer.

"[Klopp] sent me a message and wished me all the best," the midfielder, on loan at the German club from Barcelona, said. "He wrote that Bayern are a big club and that the Bundesliga is a terrific league. And he wrote that he's very happy to see me there.

"He's such an outstanding manager, one of the best in the world. A real leader. I learned so much from him, especially mentally. He changed Liverpool. It was an honour working with him."

08.56 BST: Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne hopes to play under former teammate Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht one day, though it may not be for as many as seven years.

Kompany returns to Manchester this evening for his testimonial, having spent 11 years at City and lifted the Premier League trophy four times as club captain.

The 33-year-old is now player-coach at Anderlecht in his native Belgium, and compatriot De Bruyne told The Sun that he is eyeing a reunion at the Brussels club.

"I hope his career will be just as amazing at as it was at City,' he said. "I've told him to keep a place in his team for me in a year, or seven, when I'm finished here.

"If he does do that for me I will already have my next destination lined up; my next job. I will definitely miss him being around City."

08.34 BST: Liverpool forward Sadio Mane insists he is "really happy" with life at Anfield amid regular links with Real Madrid.

"To be honest, I'm really happy to be a part of the club, the family here," he told Complex in an interview published this week. "We have the best fans in the world here, so I'm always so thankful for the support.

"It's not just great for me too -- it gives the whole squad more motivation to perform. "It keeps us hungry to get better and better together -- I really struggle to describe how happy I am to be here!"

08.00 BST: A meeting took place last season between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund over the potential sale of Jadon Sancho, the Bundesliga club's sporting director confirmed.

Sancho was linked with a move to Old Trafford for much of his breakout season in Germany last term, in which he scored 13 goals and made his senior debut for the England national team.

In an episode of Amazon Prime's latest "All Or Nothing" series, which goes behind the scenes at Dortmund, Michael Zorc discusses with colleagues in a meeting that United expressed an interest in Sancho in March, but were flatly told there was no chance of a sale in the summer transfer window.

"A hot topic right now is Sancho and Manchester United," Zorc told fellow club chiefs Matthias Sammer, Sebastian Kehl and chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke, according to the Daily Mirror. "Both his discussions with the club and mine with the consultants.

"A meeting did take place. Manchester United invited the consultant. But according to what I know, the consultant told the club that no matter how much money they offer, we won't let him go this summer. But the player also has no intention of taking that step this summer."

PAPER TALK (by Nick Judd): Spurs, PSG to fight for Dybala in January

Tottenham were linked with a sensational move for Paulo Dybala in the summer, and Football Italia cites Italian title Tuttosport as reporting that Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to reignite his interest and battle French champions Paris Saint-Germain for the Argentina international's signature.

Spurs were unable to agree terms with the player in August, while PSG failed to get a deal over the line as the English and French clubs looked to take the player off Juve's hands. Dybala was surplus to requirements last season and has only played 14 minutes of the 2019-20 campaign so far, and Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici has admitted that the club are still interested in offloading the attacking talent.

- Marcotti: Why the likes of Bale, Neymar and Dybala weren't sold
- Ogden: Could Solskjaer, Pochettino be next to go?

Manchester United also made a late move for Dyabala and, like Spurs, were unable to agree personal terms.

An interesting January awaits.

Chelsea eye Atal in January

Chelsea are looking to reinforce their defence in January if their two-transfer-window ban is lifted, and Nice defender Youcef Atal is top of the list, according to the Mail, which cites unnamed reports.

The Blues have won one game, lost one and drawn twice from their opening four contests, which has left them 11th in the Premier League table.

Boss Frank Lampard has been concerned about the fragility of his side's defence. His team have conceded nine goals in 360 minutes, which is why he is keen to land Atal, who's starring under the tutelage of Patrick Vieira. As it stands, Lampard will have to wait until next summer unless Chelsea can reduce their ban and buy the defender in January. The club have contested the punishment and remain hopeful that the ban will be overturned.

Tap-ins

- PSG will put Neymar up for sale on January 1, Catalan outlet Sport cites Tuttosport as reporting, with sporting director Leonardo wanting his compatriot out of the Parisian club as soon as possible. The Brazil international's future was one of the summer's ongoing sagas, and while he wasn't able to leave the French capital as he desired, he could still make a move when the next transfer window opens. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus were all keen to secure his services, while the French champions are seemingly on board with letting him go.
