LIVE Transfer Talk: Liverpool's Adam Lallana wanted in MLS, China

The transfer windows in Europe's top leagues are closed, but it's never too early to look forward to January. Click here to view the latest transfers, and keep up to date with the newest gossip below.

TOP STORY: Lallana leaving Liverpool?

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is being targeted by clubs in Major League Soccer and the Chinese Super League for a transfer as early as January, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Lallana, 31, is out of contract next summer and while he is set to be offered an extension by the European champions he could be tempted by the prospect of a more long-term deal by clubs in the U.S. or China.

Additionally, the top leagues in both of those countries have their seasons run from spring to winter, so a January move out of Europe would allow the England international a full preseason at a prospective new club.

Lallana has endured a difficult few years with injury problems, but he has featured in Liverpool's last three games. He came off the bench to score the equaliser at Manchester United on Oct. 20 before playing the full 90 minutes in Wednesday's Carabao Cup win over Arsenal and starting his first Premier League match since March at Aston Villa on Saturday.

LIVE BLOG

23.45 GMT: That will do it for the latest edition of our LIVE Transfer Talk blog. We hoped you enjoyed following along with us and remind you to check back shortly for the latest transfer rumours, reports and completed deals. Goodnight!

23.17 GMT: Mauro Icardi didn't have many suitors this summer but the prolific yet polarising striker is thriving at PSG and has revealed his wishes regarding his future.

On loan from Inter Milan where he was banished, Icardi, 26, has scored seven goals in his first eight games for the Paris club and seems to loving life in France.

Speaking with RMC Sport, the Argentine had the following to say about his future:  "We'll see at the end of the season if I stay. I want to do good things, I've come for that, obviously playing for a team like PSG is very important, it's one of the best teams in the world. It's a great step in my career. I will do everything to stay here."

With Edinson Cavani getting older (32) and battling injuries, could PSG re-work its front three to include Icardi for the long-term? A lot will depend on how the Parisian club fare in the Champions League one would guess...

22.34 GMT: West Ham could be in the market for a new left-back in January and one target is reportedly Rosenborg's Birger Meling.

Sportsmail understands that the Hammers are monitoring the Norway international, 24, ahead of a potential approach once the transfer window reopens. Meling, who played youth football at Middlesbrough, has 10 caps for Norway and was previously linked with a move to Celtic last summer.

21.26 GMT: While Wolves have a sure goalscorer in Raul Jimenez, Nuno Espirito Santo's team could use a complimentary forward to ease the pressure on the Mexican.

The Sun writes that one player Wolves are watching is in-form Huddersfield forward Karlan Grant, who has already scored nine times this season. The Terriers would reportedly want north of £10 million for Grant, 22 but fans of the club have valued him as high as £28m!

Wolves, who sit 12th in the Premier League, have scored only 14 goals this season, six of which were scored or assisted by Jimenez.

20.40 GMT: Nashville SC will join MLS next season from the USL and they won't enter the United States' top flight empty-handed.

That is because The Athletic's Paul Tenorio reports that the MLS expansion side will add two MLS veterans: Dax McCarty and Dave Romney.

McCarty, 32, is vastly experienced having played 361 MLS games between four different teams (FC Dallas, D.C, New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire), while Romney, 26, has played with the Galaxy since 2015. Both trades were done for Allocation Money.

19.51 GMT: David Moyes hasn't managed a club since leaving West Ham at the end of the 2017-18 season but his name always seems to resurface when jobs open up.

With Scottish clubs Hearts and Hibernian looking for new managers, Moyes, a Scot, has revealed that neither job appeals to him at this time.

"But no, neither job would be of any interest to me," the Scot told BBC Sportsound.

"I wouldn't say I wouldn't move back to Scotland. Scotland is my love and Glasgow is where I'm from. Hopefully someday I may well come back but at the moment it's not just now."

We'll see what's next for the former Everton and Man United boss.

19.06 GMT: Veteran defender Ashley Williams has extended his contract at Bristol City through the end of the season.

The former Swansea and Everton man signed a short-term contract with the Robins in the summer and has impressed thus far at Ashton Gate. Now 35, the Wales captain has been a fixture for Bristol City this season and has made a strong contribution both on the pitch and as a mentor.

18.27 GMT: Arsenal and Wolves battled it out the pitch this past Saturday, the two sides playing to a 1-1 stalemate at the Emirates. The two sides could be set to face off again in the transfer market with both clubs ready to fight over Atalanta midfielder Dejan Kulusevski.

TMW claims that Wolves have joined the race for Kulusevski and that manager Nuno Espirito Santo is ready to sanction a €15 million (£13m) offer for the 19-year-old. Atalanta reportedly want closer to €25m (£21.7m) for the Sweden Under-21 international, who has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal. The wide midfielder/winger has scored two goals and added five assists in 11 games so far this season while on loan at Parma.

17.33 GMT: Sevilla's sporting director Monchi has admitted in an interview with Fox Sports that the club are keeping tabs on rising Mexican star Jose Juan Macias.

The 20-year-old striker is currently on loan at Leon from fellow Liga MX side Chivas, but La Fiera reportedly have a buy-out option of around US$15m which they could activate in order to sell the player on to Europe.

Macias has already been linked with clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis and Manchester United.

In other Mexico-related news, former El Tri coach Javier Aguirre has returned to La Liga with Leganes. The 60-year-old coach will be in charge until the end of the season and faces a significant challenge to keep Leganes in Spain's top flight: the bottom-placed team only have five points from 12 games and are six points off safety.

16.21 GMT: He's been linked with Manchester United a lot, but Lyon striker Moussa Dembele could move to Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail.

Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are growing tired of playing backup to Tammy Abraham, so the Blues are looking for an alternative and could land the former Fulham and Celtic forward if their appeal over a transfer ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport is upheld in November.

15.30 GMT: Hands up if you saw this one coming a mile off.

After falling out with PSG and leaving on a free transfer for Juventus in the summer, Journal du Dimanche reports that Adrien Rabiot's mother and agent, Veronique, is already sounding out clubs to take her son away from Turin after a difficult start to life at his new team.

14.39 GMT: Zlatan Ibrahimovic's next move is the subject of plenty of talk, but Gazzetta reports that the 38-year-old is in talks with Bologna.

14.25 GMT: Manchester United and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to De Telegraaf.

Onana, 23, could leave Ajax after helping them to the Champions League semifinals last season but it's unlikely that he would want to head off to sit on the bench behind David De Gea or Hugo Lloris. And it's even more unlikely that either club would pay his asking price of €40m just for a decent backup.

13.40 GMT: Cardiff City face a three-window transfer ban unless they pay French club Nantes the first installment for the transfer of Emiliano Sala, FIFA said on Monday.

FIFA released the full reasoning for their September decision that Cardiff must pay the agreed first installment of €6m to Nantes.

After signing for Cardiff for £15m (€18m) in January, Sala was travelling to Wales from Nantes when his plane crashed in the English Channel. The body of the 28-year-old Argentine striker was recovered nearly three weeks later after an underwater search found the wreckage.

13.28 GMT: Of course Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is Real Madrid's first-choice and he will play for the club in the future, according to former Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev.

The Russian was at Monaco for the start of Mbappe's rise in the principality and also played a role in the 20-year-old France international's PSG move. But Vasilyev said that, despite interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, Mbappe decided to stay in his homeland in order to further his development.

"Kylian told me: 'Vadim, I feel it deep inside me -- it is too early [to leave France],'" the 54-year-old told Telefoot. "'I have only played in my country for one year. 'I am Parisian and I do not want to leave my country this way. I want to be a great player here, Real can wait.'"

12.45 GMT: Sky Sports are reporting that Real Madrid are ready to offer Gareth Bale plus £70m in exchange for Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

It's quite the claim, but Sky maintain that scout from Real will watch Sterling's performances for England next month before they make a decision on how to proceed.

The report states that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has no interest in landing Bale, so Real may resort to a world-record £200m bid instead. Or it's all rubbish.

12.10 GMT: Why did Bayern Munich sack Niko Kovac?

11.23 GMT: Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has encouraged forward Thomas Muller to think about heading to Old Trafford.

Struggling for minutes under now-sacked coach Niko Kovac, Muller has recently dropped hints he could consider his Bayern future either in the winter or next summer in order to get more playing time.

And speaking to Bild, his former Germany and Bayern teammate Schweinsteiger said he could imagine Muller taking a similar path to the one he did when he left Bayern for Manchester United in 2015.

"Thomas sat on the bench quite often recently," he said. "A change of air can do go towards the end of your career. It was like that for me at least. Thomas still has a lot of quality. And he'd definitely be an asset for Manchester United."

Schweinsteiger also revealed that then-United manager Louis van Gaal hoped to sign Muller in 2015 at the same time. "But Thomas was younger back then and did not want to leave Bayern," he added. "Maybe this has changed now."

10.31 GMT: Chalk this up as one of the strangest rumours we've seen in a while.

Imagine, if you will, spending €30m on an 18-year-old central defensive prospect, before sending him out loan to his former club to gain more experience. Now imagine selling that player to Real Madrid before he's even set foot at the club.

This is what could happen to Arsenal defender William Saliba (who is at Saint-Etienne) this season. Apparently Zinedine Zidane views him as the next Rafael Varane.

Spanish outlet Central Defense should know about central defenders really, given their name, but one feels they've missed the mark with this one.

09.22 GMT: Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig has opened the door to leaving the club on loan in January for the first time.

Puig, 20, drew interest from Ajax and Real Betis in the summer but turned down all advances in favour of staying at Camp Nou with the hope of breaking into Ernesto Valverde's first team. However, he has remained a regular feature in the B team this season. He's not even training with the first team as much as he was, with Valverde already struggling to manage the minutes of the six midfielders he has in his squad.

"I am not closing any doors," Puig has told Mundo Deportivo. "It's true I would like to have more minutes with the first team, but there are a lot of [midfielders] and it's difficult to get in the side.

"If I don't get any minutes with the first team, I will have to make a decision. I'm not training as much with the first team this season, either. Last year I was practically in the first team set up all the time, training with them and then dropping down to play for the B team."

Valverde's preferred midfield trio has emerged as Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Arthur. Arturo Vidal has also played regularly, while Ivan Rakitic and Carles Alena have started just two games between them.

08.41 GMT: FC Salzburg are yet to receive any offers for teenage sensation Erling Braut Haaland despite the striker being linked with virtually every top club in Europe.

Haaland, 19, is the Champions League's top scorer after three games of the group stage this season with six goals, including a hat trick against Genk. In all, the striker has scored 23 goals in 20 appearances since moving to Austria from Molde in his homeland of Norway last year.

Last week, The Guardian reported that Juventus and Manchester United were among the clubs tracking the Norwegian with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Chelsea also following his progress.

However, Salzburg chief Christoph Freund is quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying: "So much nonsense is written in the last few weeks. What I've already read makes me laugh. "I have not spoken to any club so far. I can also say there's currently no offer for the winter [transfer]. The next step will come, because Erling will be unstoppable."

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to be drawn on speculation linking Haaland with a move to Old Trafford when asked about his compatriot recently, saying: "I don't think it's the time now for me to talk about other team's strikers. I spoke about Harry Kane and now Erling. I don't think it's right for me."

- Ogden: Haaland idolises Ibra, eats like Ronaldo, scores like them both

08.00 GMT: Arsenal are distancing themselves from a possible move for Jose Mourinho, with Unai Emery still having the support of the club's hierarchy, sources have told ESPN FC.

Mourinho would be keen to speak to Arsenal should Emery be sacked this season, sources have told ESPN FC, but a move for the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss appears some way off at present.

It was claimed that Mourinho met Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal's head of football, for dinner recently, but sources have told ESPN FC that no such meeting took place. The two men have not seen each other for some time.

PAPER TALK (by Richard Edwards)

Pogba's brother fails to offer solace for United fans

The future of Paul Pogba has been the source of almost constant speculation for the past 12 months -- and it goes on. And on.

Pogba's brother, Mathias, was a guest on RMC in France on Sunday and did little to dispel the notion that the French star will be playing his football elsewhere when his current deal expires in 2021 -- and possibly long before then.

Pogba Facetimed his brother midway through the interview with RMC to voice his disappointment at the club's 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on the south coast on Saturday. Pogba hasn't played since Sept. 30, when he aggravated an ankle injury in the club's match against Arsenal, an injury that coincided with a mini-revival for United before Saturday's shocker against the Cherries.

With Juventus and Bayern Munich reportedly circling for Paul's services, Mathias straight-batted questions about his future.

"He continues to give everything for Manchester United. He has a contract with them. I can't say any more," he said.

So that's that sorted then. Or maybe not.

Tap-ins

-- Both Milan clubs are set to try to lure Chris Smalling from Manchester United and rain on Roma's parade. Goal Italia claims that the Serie A giants have been so impressed with the impact that Smalling has had in the Italian capital that they fancy bringing him north. All of which will be music to the ears of Smalling's agent, who reportedly headed to Rome to seal a permanent switch for him last week.

-- Manchester City starlet Tommy Doyle is set to sign a new long-term deal with the club in an attempt to stave off interest in the player from elsewhere. That's according to Teamtalk, which claims that the 18-year-old grandson of former City legend Glyn Pardoe, will put pen to paper on a contract that will see him remain at the club long after 2021, which is when his current deal expires.
