LIVE Transfer Talk: Arsenal turn to Chelsea's Jorginho

The coronavirus pandemic has made the transfer market uncertain -- you can find out when the windows close here -- but here are the rumours floating around Europe's big leagues and beyond. Plus, check out all the latest major completed transfers across Europe.

TOP STORY: Arsenal turn to Chelsea's Jorginho

Arsenal have been chasing Atletico's Thomas Partey and Lyon's Houssem Aouar to upgrade their midfield, but Sky Sports now reports they are keen on Chelsea's Jorginho.

Jorginho, 28, captained the Chelsea side in both Premier League games so far this season, so he seems secure in Frank Lampard's XI. However, the Blues have spent almost £250m this summer on a host of new additions, so could be open to listening to offers.

The Italy international was one of Maurizio Sarri's first signings for Chelsea after joining from Napoli for £57.4m in 2018 -- though Manchester City (with Mikel Arteta as assistant coach) also came close to landing him -- and had been linked with Juventus before Sarri was sacked by the Serie A champions.

The report also says that Arsenal's Lucas Torreira is closing on a loan move to Atletico Madrid.

LIVE BLOG

22.30 BST: Paris Saint-Germain's interest in Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has been known for some time now, but Le10 Sport writes that PSG sporting director Leonardo hasn't convinced the majority of the club's decision makers that the 25-year-old former AS Monaco standout is the solution to PSG's midfield conundrum.

21.43 BST: Despite interest from Arsenal and Leeds United, Julian Draxler is enjoying the sizable wages he's collecting from Paris Saint-Germain and life in the French capital too much to consider leaving Les Parisiens, according to L'Equipe, with the 27-year-old midfielder intending to see out the final year of his contract at Parc des Princes before choosing his next club as a free agent next summer.

20.56 BST: The Guardian reports that Aston Villa and West Ham United are among "several clubs" interested in taking Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan after the 24-year-old midfielder has been left out of the past two Chelsea matchday squads and was replaced after 61 minutes in their Premier League-opening win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

20.09 BST: While Atletico Madrid are looking to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on loan, the Gunners are pushing the deal to be a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to buy, according to Sky Sports. The north London club could then use any cash earned from Torreira's departure to fund a bid for Atletico's Thomas Partey, who has a €50m release clause.

19.22 BST: If Tottenham Hotspur were to move forward with a potential offer for Internazionale centre-back Milan Skriniar, which doesn't seem entirely likely, Gazzetta dello Sport writes, then the Nerazzurri could take the €50m raised from the 25-year-old's sale and use it to fund the dream signing of Antonio Conte: Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante.

18.58 BST: Ligue 2 outfit Sochaux have confirmed the signing of 29-year-old centre-back Johan Martial, the brother of Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, and the elder Martial is set to team up with Florentin Pogba, the older brother of United midfielder Paul Pogba. Has everyone kept that straight? Good.

18.35 BST: Atletico Madrid met with the representatives of Edinson Cavani earlier this week, but Los Rojiblancos' signing of Luis Suarez hasn't closed the door on Cavani potentially joining his Uruguay teammate in the Spanish capital, according to L'Equipe. The report claims that if Atletico are able to find a new home for Diego Costa, they'd be able to afford the €10m net wages the former Paris Saint-Germain striker is seeking.

17.48 BST: Bild reports that Liverpool are interested in recruiting 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Gio Reyna, but that the German giants intend to extend the United States youth international's contract as soon as he turns 18, meaning the attacker is likely to remain in the Bundesliga for the foreseeable future.

17.01 BST: Barcelona have brought Philippe Coutinho back into the fold after failing to move him on this summer, but Arsenal are still keen on signing him, says Sport.

Coutinho, 28, cost Barca €160m when he signed from Liverpool in 2018 but spent last season on loan at Bayern.

The Brazilian is reportedly in the plans of new coach Ronald Koeman, but Barca desperately need money and would still consider offers. Though the Gunners are only really interested in a loan deal.

16.22 BST: Santiago Arias has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a one-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid, with an option to buy.

16.02 BST: Inter Milan defender Diego Godin has said his goodbyes on social media ahead of a move to Cagliari.

15.44 BST: Barcelona lost striker Luis Suarez on a free transfer to Atletico Madrid. But do they even need to replace him?

15.10 BST: Manchester United will publish their year-end accounts in mid-October which is set to underline the full scale of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the club's running total of losses over the last six months already in excess of £75m and likely to top £100m before the end of the year.

United will post their financial figures for the fourth quarter at the same time and, with that period covering business from April 1 to June 30, it will give a full insight into the losses caused by football being suspended in mid-March and closed to paying supporters ever since.

Sources have told ESPN's Mark Ogden that United lose between £4m-5m every time Old Trafford stages a match behind closed doors and the club has, to date, played seven competitive games at home in front of empty stands.

14.44 BST: Some question whether the prospect of another year of an unhappy Lionel Messi is best for Barcelona. The No. 10 has channelled his anger on the pitch before with positive results for the team; he might do so again. But ESPN has been told that some players thought a fresh start, with a new coach and without Messi, might have been the best for everyone...

This is the story -- told with the help of numerous first-hand accounts from sources close to both player and club -- of how Messi's nagging doubts about Barcelona eventually became impossible to ignore, and what happened next.

14.01 BST: Leeds United have signed Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente for an undisclosed fee.

Llorente, 27, started his career at Real Madrid and has won a four-year deal at Elland Road

13.56 BST: What will Manchester United do with Paul Pogba?

13.40 BST: Back in June, sources told ESPN that Benfica defensive midfielder Florentino Luis was attracting attention from top European clubs, including Manchester United and AC Milan.

Now, L'Equipe reports that the 21-year-old will move to Monaco on a season-long loan with no option to buy, and it will cost the French club €2m.

Nicknamed "O Polvo" -- the Octopus -- for the way he covers ground and wins loose balls in midfield, Florentino was a key part of the Portugal team that won the European Under-17 Championship in 2016 and European U19 Championship in 2018.

13.13 BST: West Ham are trying to sign Saint-Etienne centre-back Wesley Fofana and have made an offer of £36m, reports the Evening Standard.

The Hammers had made efforts to land England defender James Tarkowski, but won't spend the £40m that Burnley want. So instead have turned attention to 19-year-old French defender Fofana in a move worth £25m, plus £11m in add-ons.

Fofana has also been on Leicester's radar this summer.

12.37 BST: The last player to go from Manchester City's academy to Borussia Dortmund was Jadon Sancho. Just saying.

12.22 BST: Highly rated full-back Aaron Hickey leaves Scotland for Italy, moving from Hearts to Serie A side Bologna.

And WHAT AN ANNOUNCEMENT this is!

12.19 BST: As first reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham are interested in signing Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar but the Serie A club are holding out for a fee of €60m (£53.9m), sources have confirmed to ESPN's James Olley.

Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho is keen to strengthen his defensive options before the transfer window closes next month and the club's head of recruitment Steve Hitchen was pictured in Milan on Wednesday to discuss a deal for the Slovakia international.

However, Tottenham would prefer an initial season-long loan deal for the 25-year-old, having committed £25m in signing Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid in addition to around £11m in wages to bring Gareth Bale to north London.

Inter are determined to stick to their €60m valuation of Skriniar and that figure represents a major stumbling block in negotiations with Spurs needing to sell fringe players in order to fund further moves in the market.

12.02 BST: Bayern Munich may need to sign some more players before the window shuts on Oct. 5. Gab Marcotti explains.

It may seem unconscionable to suggest that a club that won the Treble last season, a club that's coming off 22 wins on the spin (including an 8-0 drubbing of Schalke in their season opener Friday), a club that last lost a match on Dec. 7, 2019 -- and has won every game, bar one, since then -- might be a little bit short-handed going into the season. But that's exactly where Bayern Munich find themselves right now.

The fact is this team is short -- or at least, shorter than they need to be -- in a number of positions. The starting lineup isn't the issue; it's the depth. And that matters when you consider that this promises to be one of the most congested campaigns in recent history: if they advance all the way to the Champions League final, like they did last season and like they hope to do again, it will last 253 days.

Contrast this with their last non-COVID-19 affected campaign, 2018-19, which lasted 288 days. More games in less time generally adds up to more fatigue and less recovery time, which means more injuries. Throw in the fact that the Bundesliga's customary monthlong winter break has, by necessity, been reduced to two weeks over Christmas and New Year, and there won't be the usual opportunity to recharge the batteries in midseason either. There are at least three evident areas of concern.

11.27 BST: Barcelona centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo has been linked with a move this summer and RMC Sport reports that Fulham have lodged an offer of €18m to sign the 20-year-old.

11.13 BST: Have Atletico Madrid made themselves La Liga title challengers by signing Luis Suarez from Barcelona?

10.45 BST: Last summer, RB Leipzig went the extra mile to sign winger Ademola Lookman for €18m from Everton. The 22-year-old had previously impressed in the Bundesliga during a six-month loan spell at the club in early 2018.

But Lookman has struggled for playing time ever since joining on a permanent transfer in July 2019. He made 13 competitive appearances and only started in two matches under Julian Nagelsmann last term. As a result, sporting director Markus Krosche has now said the Englishman could leave, with Fulham reportedly interested.

"Something could very well still happen here," Krosche told reporters. "Ademola has not played much and a young player must play somehow."

10.21 BST: Leeds United are eager to land Levante midfielder Jose Campana, with the player keen to move to the Premier League, according to Onda Deportiva.

The Premier League club are prepared to pay up to €18m to acquire the 27-year-old, who is tied to Levante until June 2023.

Levante are only prepared to sell Campana for €30m. The Spaniard scored two goals and set up seven more in 37 league appearances for Levante last season.

10.05 BST: Chelsea have completed the transfer of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes on a five-year contract.

Mendy's arrival will increase the pressure on Kepa Arrizabalaga following his mistake in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to champions Liverpool in the Premier League.

"I am so excited to be joining Chelsea," he said. "It's a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff. I look forward to meeting my team-mates and can't wait to get started."

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: "As soon as Petr Cech and our technical team identified Edouard as the most suitable goalkeeper to complement our existing group, there was only one player we wanted to bring in. Edouard arrives following a season of real success with Rennes, he is ambitious for more, and we welcome him to our club."

09.50 BST: Germany's 2014 World Cup hero Mario Gotze is back in the news as his contract at Borussia Dortmund expired this summer and he has yet to join a new club.

A recent change of agents, his second switch of agencies this year, has seen him return to the headlines in some German publications in the past couple of weeks. And one of them, Bild, on Wednesday reported that Gotze could return to Bayern Munich, the club he joined from Dortmund in 2013 and then left for Dortmund in 2016.

The outlet claimed that Bayern coach Hansi Flick had already spoken with Gotze on the phone. But at the news conference ahead of the European Super Cup in Budapest between Bayern and Sevilla, Flick told reporters: "Currently, he's not an issue for us."

09.31 BST: Should Dele Alli leave Tottenham this summer?

08.58 BST: Ansu Fati's release clause has automatically increased to €400m after Barcelona officially promoted him to the first team for the upcoming season.

Fati, 17, burst onto the scene last season, scoring eight goals in all competitions, but remained registered to the B team, despite never actually playing for them.

His performances earned him a new contract in December until 2022, with his release clause initially rising from €100m to €170m.

However, the terms of that deal stipulated that once he was officially given first team status, the clause would more than double to €400m.

Fati will inherit the No.22 shirt which was vacated this week by Arturo Vidal, who joined Inter Milan. He grew particularly close to the Chilean midfielder during his debut season at Camp Nou.

08.26 BST: David Alaba has entered the last 12 months of his Bayern Munich and is yet to sign a new deal, giving rise to the prospect that the Champions League winners could lose the defender before the Oct. 5 deadline.

In theory, there would no shortage of major European clubs interested in the 28-year-old, who has been a mainstay in the Bayern first team for almost a decade.

However, any club would not only have to pay Alaba an annual salary in the region of €20m but would also have to pay a significant fee of around €60m for the Austria international, kicker reports.

- Marcotti: Is Bayern's squad too thin to defend Treble?

08.00 BST: Atletico Madrid have strengthened their attack with the signing of Luis Suarez from Barcelona, both clubs announced on Wednesday evening.

The Catalan club confirmed that the Uruguay striker will leave for the Spanish capital and will hold a farewell press conference on Thursday.

Suarez, 33, joins Atletico on a free transfer, although Barca could make up to €6m on the move based on a number of performance-related variables.

The deal is expected to be for two years, with Atletico stating the deal is subject to a medical examination.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone was the driving force behind the move for Suarez, which fell into place once Alvaro Morata joined Juventus on loan on Tuesday.

The Rojiblancos, like Barca, are in a period of financial uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic and needed to make room on their wage bill before signing new players.

PAPER TALK (by Danny Lewis)

Barcelona, Roma and PSG looking at Rudiger

It has already been reported that Chelsea are willing to sell Antonio Rudiger after he dropped down Frank Lampard's centre-back pecking order. But details are now emerging regarding the clubs that are showing an interest in bringing the Germany international in on loan.

Kicker has named Barcelona and AS Roma as two clubs who are keeping an eye on him, while The Daily Mail reports that Paris Saint-Germain may want the defender after Thiago Silva went the other way.

He may be an outcast at Stamford Bridge, but it appears Rudiger isn't short of options.

Man City to ask for Gimenez extension

Manchester City have been showing interest in signing Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez, though that has now been complicated after the Uruguayan tested positive for the coronavirus.

Due to the fact he will be self-isolating, Gimenez will not be able to complete a medical before the Oct. 5 deadline, but The Daily Star has suggested that City have not given up hope.

They have requested that FIFA extends the transfer deadline for the deal so the medical can be completed safely.

This comes after City already brought in another defender this window, having signed Nathan Ake from AFC Bournemouth for £41m.

Spurs making move for Skriniar

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign Internazionale centre-back Milan Skriniar.

The Italian giants are said to be holding out for €60m, which Spurs are unwilling to pay at this time.

The report says that Skriniar is very interested in the move and is hoping that a deal of €50m plus add-ons can be agreed upon.

If the move is completed, Inter will attempt to sign Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic to replace him, otherwise, the alternative is Chris Smalling, who seems certain to leave Manchester United and has yet to agree a permanent move to Roma, where he spent last season on loan.

Tap-ins

- Nacho Fernandez could be leaving Real Madrid before the transfer deadline, and AS has hinted that his likely destination is Serie A. When his agent, Juanma Lopez, was organising Alvaro Morata's deal to Juventus, reports said he was also meeting potential suitors for the defender. Juventus, Napoli and Roma are said to be the three teams currently showing an interest in signing the Spain international.

- Marseille have been long-term admirers of Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance, but they now have competition from Leeds United. That is according to Foot Mercato, which reports that Marcelo Bielsa is very keen on bringing the Frenchman to Elland Road, and has requested that Leeds make an offer. Due to financial difficulties, Marseille were only looking to bring the midfielder in on loan.

- Watford and Valencia are in discussion over a deal for the Hornets midfielder Etienne Capoue, reports The Watford Observer. The Frenchman, along with Roberto Pereyra, is not in Vladimir Ivic's matchday squads after requesting a transfer. Watford would prefer to sell him outright, while Valencia want a loan, due to their financial situation, meaning an agreement has not yet been made.
