LIVE Transfer Talk: Liverpool look to Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele with Federico Chiesa untouchable

The summer transfer window was unlike any other; see all the major deals and check out how we graded the biggest signings. And just because the window is shut until January, that doesn't mean the rumours won't keep coming. Here is the latest gossip and speculation. 

TOP STORY: Liverpool turn to Dembele with Chiesa ruled out

Liverpool are considering a move for Ousmane Dembele, and could sign the Barcelona forward on a free transfer next summer, reports TeamTalk. 

Dembele, 24, signed for Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 as the Camp Nou club reinvested the transfer funds received from Neymar's move to Paris Saint-Germain. But Dembele's career in Spain has never really taken off due to fitness and form issues. 

The France international is into the last year of his contract, and while Barca hoped to agree an extension to protect his transfer value that now looks unlikely.

The report states that Liverpool could make a move in January, when Dembele will be able to open talks with any other club and sign a precontract agreement to move on a free transfer next July.

Jurgen Klopp's side were previously linked with Federico Chiesa, but Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Juventus see the Italy star as untouchable and will not entertain interest from other clubs.

21.31 BST: Juventus believe 19-year-old Kaio Jorge has a bright future with the club, but since signing in August, he's played just one minute for the Italian giants, who are now considering allowing the forward to leave on loan in an effort to get him more playing time, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Cagliari, Sampdoria and Sassuolo are said to be interested in taking on the Brazil youth international.

20.24 BST: Marcelo Brozovic will be a free agent this summer, and Internazionale have thus far been unwilling to match his €6m annual wage demands, Corriere dello Sport reports. And with Hakan Calhanoglu (who left AC Milan for Inter over the summer on a free transfer) fresh in mind, Milan are now considering returning the favour by recruiting the 28-year-old Croatia midfielder on a free transfer of their own.

19.17 BST: Internazionale are looking to move on from Alexis Sanchez, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. If the Nerazzurri can't find a new home for the 32-year-old attacker, they would be willing to terminate the Chile international's contract - a pricey proposition.

At the same time, Inter will need reinforcing at the front, and their primary target is Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic. Should they be unable to agree a deal with Los Blancos for the 23-year-old Serbia international, they could turn their attention to Alexandre Lacazette, whose contract at Arsenal expires this summer, leaving him free to negotiate a pre-contract for a summer switch in January.

18.10 BST: Sergio Romero's nightmare could be about to come to an end, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the former Manchester United goalkeeper is finally on the verge of signing for Venezia. 

Romero, 34, has been a free agent since leaving Old Trafford at the end of last season and has been linked with the Serie A club for several weeks.

The former Argentina international was not named in United's official squads for the 2020-21 season, and hasn't played a senior game since the Europa League victory over FC Copenhagen in August 2020. 

17.05 BST: Sportmediaset reports that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Alvaro Morata, with Juventus unlikely to make his two-year loan move permanent at the end of the season.

Morata, 28, remains an Atletico Madrid player, but they are unlikely to want to take him back and will instead look for another home for the Spain international. 

It is said that Spurs see Morata as a replacement for Harry Kane, should he get his desired move away next summer. 

16.03 BST: Sassuolo chief executive Giovanni Carnevali has told the "Festival dello Sport" event in Italy that Inter Milan targets Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca will not leave the club in January -- but he did not rule out moves next summer.

Forward Raspadori, 21, was part of the Italy squad that won Euro 2020 in the summer, with 22-year-old striker Scamacca making his international bow in a 5-0 home win over Lithuania last month. 

"Raspadori is an important player for us," Carnevali said. "Inter are interested, but our intention, especially for young players like Raspadori and Scamacca, is to keep them with us.

"There's no chance in January, neither for Inter nor other clubs. Talking about June, on the other hand, it's still early. It's clear that we are a club that must take into account the economic result too."

14.49 BST: Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano has hit back at critics of Dusan Vlahovic, who have questioned the player's commitment after announcing he will not sign a contract extension.

The prolific Vlahovic, 21, is being tracked by several top clubs, and Fiorentina were hoping he would extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2023.

But the striker has ended negotiations over a new deal, which is set to spark a transfer battle. Both Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur had bids rejected in the summer window. 

Italiano insists he will continue to select Vlahovic, despite the transfer rumours are around his player. 

"Leave him alone! Dusan is a serious professional, he still has two years left on his contract and will give everything for Fiorentina," Italiano told Corriere dello Sport. "I believe that when he has to go on the pitch and push hard, he will always do it. I hope the problems off the pitch will not interfere, and I'll stop here.

"To talk about how to replace him in the first transfer market available, which arrives in three months, makes little sense. We have [Aleksandr] Kokorin and we have to try to get the most out of them."

14.00 BST: Julien Laurens and Alejandro Moreno can't believe that Barcelona president Joan Laporta would admit publicly that he had hoped Lionel Messi would play for free, before the Argentina international left for Paris Saint-Germain.

13.09 BST: The Daily Star speculates that Manchester City are hoping their kit sponsors can help them land Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland is expected to leave Dortmund next summer when his €75m release clause becomes active, and every club is going to want to sign the 21-year-old.

But City are hoping that Puma can help them steal a march and sign Haaland, with the sports manufacturing giants in the process of trying to lure the player away from Nike. 

If Puma gets its man, will City too? 

12.20 BST: Teamtalk reports that Chile international Ben Brereton Diaz is a target for Sevilla. 

Brereton Diaz, who represented England through to under-20 level and won the Golden Boot in his country's triumphant UEFA European Under-19 Championship campaign four years ago, switched his international allegiance to Chile earlier this year and proved an instant hit.  The striker, who qualifies for Chile through his mother, scored on his first start for the country at the Copa America this summer. 

The Blackburn Rovers player is now attracting interest from LaLiga after scoring 10 goals in the first 11 Championship games this season.

With Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri attracting interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, Brereton Diaz is seen as a possible replacement. 

11.33 BST: Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has said Real Madrid "should be punished" for their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

Madrid made a series of bids to land the 22-year-old forward -- who has less than a year left on his contract in Paris -- at the end of this summer's transfer window, offering €160m, €180m and, according to sources in Madrid, €200m on deadline day.

"Real Madrid have been talking about Mbappe publicly for two years, as if it were normal," Leonardo said, speaking at the "Festival dello Sport" event in Italy. "We've said many times to Madrid that we're not happy with this situation. Many times it's been said, as if it were normal, that Mbappe would go to Madrid. I think it's something that should be punished. It isn't normal behaviour."

Earlier this week, Leonardo accused Madrid of a "lack of respect" after Perez, coach Carlo Ancelotti and international teammate Karim Benzema all commented on Mbappe's future.

10.48 BST: The Sunday Mirror reports that Manchester United are preparing a new contract for centre-back Harry Maguire.

Maguire, 28, joined United from Leicester City two years ago for £80m, a world record fee for a defender, and has become a rock at the heart of the defence. He has now formed a strong partnership with Raphael Varane, following his move from Real Madrid.

The England international has a deal through to the summer of 2025, but United are looking to renegotiate his contract to bring his wage in line with summer signings Varane and Jadon Sancho.

10.00 BST: Leeds United are hopeful of agreeing a new contract with star midfielder Kalvin Phillips before the transfer window reopens, Football Insider reports. 

Phillips has enjoyed a stellar year, which saw him named as England's Player of the Year as the Three Lions finished as runners-up at Euro 2020. That led to rumours of a move to a Champions League club, with Phillips still on the contract he signed when Leeds were in the Championship.

The 25-year-old has a deal until 2024, so Leeds have no need to rush to agree an extension. But the report says the club are eager to give the player improved terms to avoid speculation in January.

- The list of names linked with a move to Newcastle United is growing with reports that Kalidou Koulibaly is a priority signing in January. That's according to Football Insider, which writes that the new board see the Senegal international as an ideal first marquee signing. The 30-year-old was linked with Manchester United and a host of other clubs in the summer.

- Paris Saint-Germain are looking to add further depth to their attack with Lorenzo Insigne on a list of targets. Le10Sport writes that the Ligue 1 club will consider a move for the Napoli star in the summer on a free transfer. The 30-year-old has been in talks over a possible renewal on his current terms that expire at the end of the season, but the Italy international could now have a decision to make with one of Europe's top clubs interested in his signature.

- Juventus are interested in Donny van de Beek, according to Corriere Dello Sport. The Manchester United midfielder has struggled to find regular first-team minutes at Old Trafford, and with the Turin side looking to strengthen for a long-term project, the Netherlands midfielder is seen as a possible option in the January transfer window.

- Giacomo Bonaventura is edging closer to a new contract with Fiorentina, Corriere Dello Sport has revealed. The 32-year-old has been a key part of the midfield this season, with a number of impressive displays that have seen him score one goal and assisting two others in the Serie A.

- Denis Zakaria has turned down Borussia Monchengladbach's latest contract offer, according to Nicolo Schira. The Switzerland international has been linked with a move to AS Roma in the last week and it looks as though the 24-year-old could be heading for the exit once his deal expires in the summer.
