Why Erling Haaland would move to Barcelona (1:47)

Janusz Michallik feels the prospect of restoring Barcelona to their former glory may tempt Erling Haaland to move to the club. (1:47)

The 2022 January transfer window is open (find out when it closes here) and there's plenty of gossip swirling about who's moving where. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest buzz on rumours, comings and goings and, of course, done deals!

TOP STORY: Laporta confident Barcelona will land Haaland

Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes his club will be able to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the summer, according to Marca.

The Norway international is Laporta's main priority and he insists that the Blaugrana will have the required funds to make their move in the next transfer window, despite debts of €1.4 billion which have seen the club move the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann off the wagebill.

There is well-documented competition from Real Madrid, but Haaland would be considered less of a star name at Los Blancos, especially due to their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe. At Barcelona, the 21-year-old is getting a guarantee that he will be the main man for Xavi Hernandez to build his squad around and there will be exciting talent for him to link up with too, with the likes of Ansu Fati, Pedri and now €55m new arrival Ferran Torres (who can't yet be registered due to LaLiga's imposed spending limit for the season of €97m.)

While Barcelona will still need figure out how to pay Haaland's salary and reported €75m release clause, they are also hoping to persuade him that being their main man will give him greater earning power in off-field deals.

Outside of Spain, Manchester City are said to be Barcelona's main competition, while Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation.

22.00 GMT: Newcastle United are advancing in talks to sign Samuel Umtiti, reports Sport. Barcelona have been trying to find a new home for the 28-year-old centre-back for some time, and despite only wanting to play for a side competing in Europe, it is reported that he could be persuaded to move to St. James' Park on a loan.

The deal would not include a permanent option, with the France international harboring hopes of returning to the Camp Nou next season, when he would have just 12 months remaining on his contract.

21.27 GMT: Nice have confirmed the signing of former Premier League defender Jordan Amavi. The 27-year-old left-back leaves Marseille, where he's made just two starts in Ligue 1, to return to the club where he made his professional debut on loan for the remainder of the campaign with an option to make the switch permanent.

20.54 GMT: Fabrizio Romano reports that Axel Tuanzebe is set to move on loan to Napoli. The 24-year-old Manchester United centre-back, who's spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Aston Villa, will undergo a medical on Friday and join the Serie A club until the summer, with a loan fee and bonuses totaling €1.2m.

20.21 GMT: A race is heating up for Chelsea's Malang Sarr, according to Foot Mercato. It is reported that West Ham United, Watford and Strasbourg are all keen to secure the 22-year-old defender, though he is in no rush to leave Stamford Bridge and has established himself as a rotational figure in Thomas Tuchel's back line.

20.04 GMT: United States midfielder and defender James Sands has completed a loan move to Rangers from Major League Soccer champions New York City FC through the end of the 2022-23 Scottish Premier League season. The Glasgow club have an option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan. Read the full story.

19.48 GMT: Flamengo are pushing to sign a new goalkeeper, and they have placed Barcelona backstop Neto high on their shortlist, according to Rudy Galetti. His reporting suggests that the Brazilian side are open to a permanent move for the 32-year-old, who has made just two appearances in LaLiga this season. They are also monitoring Agustin Marchesin of FC Porto as a fallback option.

19.15 GMT: Le10 Sport reports that there is some way to go before a deal is completed between Manchester United and Sevilla for Anthony Martial. The LaLiga club are keen on adding the 26-year-old forward to their squad on a loan deal, but with his salary reportedly at €9m per season, they are only prepared to push forward with the move if the Red Devils will cover some of his wages.

18.42 GMT: Inter Milan are tracking Borussia Monchengladbach winger Ramy Bensebaini, according to Calciomercato. The 26-year-old Algeria international has been scouted by the Serie A club in recent months, though they are yet to reach an agreement over a transfer fee, with a figure in the region of €20m said to be wanted by the Bundesliga side.

18.09 GMT: Lucas Digne will soon decide on his next club as he drifts towards the exits at Everton, but Fabrizio Romano has ruled out a move to Newcastle United. The 28-year-old left-back is expected to remain in the Premier League, with Chelsea a potential destination after Thomas Tuchel's side lost Ben Chilwell for the remainder of the season, although negotiations are yet to commence.

17.35 GMT: Ekrem Konur reports that Dries Mertens could be set to leave Napoli after nine years at the Serie A club. The 34-year-old forward is in talks with PSV Eindhoven over a return to the Eredivisie after leaving for Naples in 2013, and he could sign on a free transfer with his contract in Italy set to expire in the summer.

17.00 GMT: Borussia Dortmund are close to reaching an agreement with Angers for the signature of Mohamed-Ali Cho, reports Foot Mercato. The Bundesliga club have been tracking the 17-year-old forward for months, and it is reported that a fee in the region of €22m has been agreed, with the France U21 international set to remain with the Ligue 1 side on loan for the remainder of the season.

16.24 GMT: Everton defender Lucas Digne has fallen out of favour after a reported bust-up with manager Rafa Benitez.

Digne, 28, is set to depart the club this month and Fabrizio Romano says the Frenchman "will decide his next club soon." However, Romano adds that he is not going to Newcastle.

Chelsea are keen and so are West Ham and Napoli. But Everton reportedly want around £30m for a permanent deal and won't let him leave on loan.

16.03 GMT: Birmingham Legion FC of the USL Championship have agreed terms to transfer Jamaica international forward Junior Flemmings to Toulouse in France's Ligue 2, multiple sources told ESPN's Kyle Bonagura.

The two clubs have agreed a low six-figure transfer fee (in USD), plus add-ons, for the 25-year-old. Toulouse sit in second place in Ligue 2 and are trying to earn promotion to back to Ligue 1 after getting relegated at the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Flemmings made his professional debut in Jamaica in 2013, but has played in the USL Championship since 2016 with the New York Red Bulls II, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Phoenix Rising and the Legion. He won the league's Golden Boot Award in 2020 and has scored 57 goals in 142 matches, while he has made seven appearances for Jamaica in World Cup qualifying.

15.30 GMT: Can PSG persuade Kylian Mbappe not to sign for Real Madrid?

14.51 GMT: Philippe Coutinho is open to leaving Barcelona this month and five Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Everton, have expressed an interest in signing him, sources have confirmed to ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens.

Coutinho's agent Kia Joorabchian is working in collaboration with Barca to find a new home for the Brazil international, who wants to play regular football before the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Villa, coached by Coutinho's former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, are one of the clubs interested in signing the playmaker.

A source close to Coutinho's camp added that talks with all interested parties are still at a very early stage and that "no [club] is being ruled out at this stage."

"It's all to do with the football project more than anything else," the source said.

Another source revealed that Everton are one of the clubs who have held talks over a deal for Coutinho, who spent five years at their Merseyside rivals Liverpool before joining Barca for a club record €160m fee in 2018. However, there's an internal debate at Goodison Park, with owner Farhad Moshiri keen on doing a deal for Coutinho, while coach Rafa Benitez is not yet on board.

Sources said the conditions Barca are offering -- a loan with the Catalan club still paying part of Coutinho's wages -- are favourable for Premier League clubs.

14.12 GMT: USMNT defender Bryan Reynolds is set to leave Roma on loan in this transfer window, with Anderlecht in pole position to land the young right-back, sources have told ESPN.

The Belgian side are favourites to sign Reynolds on a temporary deal through to the end of the season, but face competition from Club Brugge and English Championship side Hull City.

Reynolds, 20, has found his game time limited at Roma since he joined the club last January from FC Dallas. The deal was originally on loan, but included an obligation to make the deal permanent last summer for €6.75m, with €5m in add-ons.

But under manager Jose Mourinho, who took charge ahead of this season, Reynolds has played just one minute in Serie A this term, with his only other action seeing him start their 6-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Conference League.

Sources said there is willingness on both sides for Reynolds to seek a loan move for more first-team football.

14.03 GMT: TalkSPORT claims Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is attracting attention in January.

Neves, 24, put in a fine performance as Wolves beat Man United 1-0 this weekend and United are now named as potential suitors.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick wants to improve the club's midfield and Portugal international Neves would fit well alongside Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

13.44 GMT: Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun is on the verge of joining Middlesbrough on loan for the rest of the season, says The Daily Express.

Balogun, 20, has only made two appearances for the first team this season and is keen to get more match time.

The England U21 international signed a new long-term contract with the club in April but will be allowed to depart in January.

13.21 GMT: Diego Simeone has said that Atletico Madrid have given Kieran Trippier "48 hours to resolve his situation" as the England right-back closes in on a move to Newcastle United.

Trippier was allowed to skip training on Tuesday and Wednesday as the final details of his return back to the Premier League -- after joining Atletico from Tottenham in 2019 -- are ironed out.

"I'm grateful for the time Kieran has been here with us," Simeone said in a news conference on Wednesday ahead of Atletico's Copa del Rey game with Rayo Majadahonda. "He's behaved really well, he's worked hard, and he's been a very important player for us as I've said before. Now we'll look forward and look for alternatives."

ESPN reported on Tuesday that Atletico are already looking at options to replace Trippier, favouring a full-back who could also fill in at centre-back.

13.09 GMT: Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says Alvaro Morata will not be allowed to leave the club this month after Barcelona made a move for the striker.

ESPN revealed last week that Barca had made Morata their top target for the January transfer window after completing the €55m signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

Sources added that Morata, who is on loan at Juve from Atletico Madrid until the end of the season, was open to a return to Spain, but the Italian club don't want to lose him.

"Morata stays here," Allegri confirmed in a news conference on Wednesday. "He's not leaving this month. We had a face-to-face meeting and I told him: 'You're 100% staying.'"

Juve have an option to make Morata's move permanent in the summer, but sources told ESPN the Serie A club were open to letting him end his loan in Turin early. However, the lack of possible replacements available has forced them to change their opinion after initially offering Barca optimism that a deal might be possible.

13.00 GMT: USMNT star Ricardo Pepi is under scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen's microscope. Can the former FC Dallas striker, who models himself on Robert Lewandowski, succeed at Augsburg?

What sets him apart is his overall centre-forward game, combined with his athleticism and work rate. While most teenage strikers tend to refine their hold-up game from their early 20s, the 6-foot-1 Pepi already possesses the ability to drop deep to get on the ball and shows a willingness to track back and press defenders as the focal point of the attack.

Another distinctive feature that sets the American aside from most of his contemporaries is his impressive balance and strength, often demonstrated when picking the ball up in space before setting off on a dribble. In those circumstances he's hard to catch or knock off the ball, which makes him ideal to profit from counterattacks.

Pepi is already good at hitting the target with his efforts on goal (46% in MLS last season) and boasts a varied finishing technique with either foot that keeps opposing goalkeepers guessing. While he tends to score most of his goals from inside the penalty area, his clinical finishing makes him a very dangerous opponent.

12.13 GMT: Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is of interest to Manchester United, says Footmercato

Zagadou, 22, has a contract which expires in the summer and has yet to pen new terms, with negotiations still ongoing.

United's interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, is reportedly the one who wants to sign the France U21 international but will have to wait until the summer to do so for free.

11.50 GMT: AS Roma are expected to complete a loan move for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the next 24 hours, sources have told ESPN.

The Italian club's sporting director Tiago Pinto had made contact with the north London club last month to explore a potential move, ESPN had previously reported, and talks have progressed positively since.

It is understood Maitland-Niles will join Roma until the end of the season, but the deal does not contain an option or an obligation for a permanent move the 24-year-old.

11.04 GMT: Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has apologised for an unsanctioned interview he gave to Sky Italy in which he expressed his unhappiness at the club and claimed he wanted to one day return to Inter Milan.

Sources have told ESPN that Lukaku is also expected to stay at the club with the following clear-the-air talks with head coach Thomas Tuchel. The 28-year-old was dropped for Sunday's 2-2 draw against Liverpool with Tuchel concerned about the "noise" caused by the interview.

10.44 GMT: Sevilla have joined Arsenal and Tottenham in the race to sign Juventus midfielder Dejan Kulusevski, says Calciomercato.

Kulusevski, 21, has slipped down the pecking order in Turin and is keen to move on to play more regular games.

However, the Sweden international is rated at around €35m and so far clubs have yet to show an interest at that level. The report claims Sevilla want a loan move, though Juve are trying to raise funds and would only consider a permanent offer.

10.05 GMT: Wolves have signed Japan international midfielder Hayao Kawabe from Swiss Super League side Grasshoppers.

Kawabe, 26, has scored four goals and assisted three in 18 games since he joined Grasshoppers from Sanfrecce Hiroshima last summer. He will stay with Wolves throughout January and then return to Grasshoppers on loan for the rest of the season.

Wolves technical director Scott Sellars said: "Naturally, Hayao is a player we've watched a lot and he's done really well this season. He's an attacking midfield player, very energetic, very busy, and has good quality. He's really shone at Grasshoppers this year, and he's one of the main reasons they're doing so well.

"Due to the GBE criteria for signing international players, Hayao is a player who is eligible to sign for a British club this month, but may not be in the future, which is why we've moved now to confirm his signing.

"Hayao will spend January with Bruno's group while the Swiss Super League is on a winter break, then he'll likely return to Grasshoppers to finish the season there, as he has been an important player for them so far this season."

10.00 GMT: ICYMI - Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF has loaned Mexico international Rodolfo Pizarro to Liga MX club Monterrey, the clubs announced on Tuesday.

It marks a return to Los Rayados for Pizarro, who initially left the club to join David Beckham's Miami side as a Designated Player for its inaugural 2020 season. The loan includes an option to make the move permanent.

"This loan gives the club more options to continue managing our roster. We are working tirelessly to acquire the right players that will help us attain our objectives moving forward. We're glad to have found an opportunity for Rodolfo to continue developing in Mexico and wish him well during his loan," said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.

09.31 GMT: Chelsea are keen on a move for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer, reports Goal.

Tchouameni, 21, has impressed in Ligue 1 and has a number of top clubs on his trail. The France international is rated at around €40m, though Chelsea also have interest in West Ham's Declan Rice and won't sign both players.

The Blues must also consider bringing Conor Gallagher -- currently playing well on loan at Crystal Palace -- into the squad next season.

09.14 GMT: Brighton have signed midfielder Kacper Kozlowski from Pogon Szczecin for around £8m.

Kozlowski, 18, has signed a contract until June 2026 but will join Belgian league leaders Royale Union St-Gilloise on a six-month loan in January.

The Poland international became the youngest-ever player to represent their country at the European Championships last summer.

Head coach Graham Potter said: "His style of play suits us and our style. During my time here, we have done very well in recruiting players for the future and Kacper is a similar signing. He will initially head out on loan, as it is important for him to continue his development, and he is keen to continue playing regularly. We will be watching with interest, as he is a very exciting young talent and a player I am really looking forward to working with in the future."

09.03 GMT: Marca reports that Dortmund are accepting of the fact Erling Haaland will leave the club in 2022, due to a €75m release clause that kicks in later this year, and are lining up a replacement.

FC Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi, 19, is the main option and would cost around €40m to sign.

But there are also some other options being considered, namely: Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic, Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic and Benfica's Darwin Nunez.

08.44 GMT: Brazilian midfielder Fernando Reges has signed a contract extension with Sevilla through June 2024, the club announced.

Fernando's previous contract was due to expire in the summer. The 34-year-old joined Sevilla in 2019 from Galatasaray and has scored seven goals and set up nine more in 110 appearances for the Spanish club.

"My priority was always to stay here," he said. "Sevilla is growing more every year that passes. The demand is greater, there is more competition within the squad and I am happy to be part of this growth. I hope to continue doing well on the field and that Sevilla always remains in the top four."

08.30 GMT: Donny van de Beek will continue to assess his options for a potential move away from Manchester United in January, sources have told ESPN, despite assurances from interim coach Ralf Rangnick he will get opportunities during the second half of the season.

Rangnick has told Van de Beek he would like to keep him at Old Trafford until at least the end of the season. He is prepared to stay at the club but sources have told ESPN he has reservations about the prospect of increased playing time after starting just one game since Rangnick's arrival.

Van de Beek, who moved from Ajax in a £40m deal in 2020, is yet to start in the Premier League this season and was an unused substitute for the 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday. He made just four league starts last term and has been dropped from the Netherlands squad by coach Louis van Gaal.

PAPER GOSSIP (by Danny Lewis)

- As Ralf Rangnick tries to unite the Manchester United squad, there are as many as 11 players who want to leave the club, according to The Mirror. The four players named within the report are Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson, who have all grown frustrated with a lack of game time.

- Diario Sport have offered an insight into Arsenal's interest in Barcelona forward Philippe Coutinho, saying that the Gunners want a loan without the obligation to sign the Brazil international permanently. Arsenal also want a reduction of the 29-year-old's wages -- whether that comes from Coutinho taking a pay cut or Barcelona supplementing them. There have also reportedly been discussions with Everton, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, while the former Liverpool man reportedly has no interest in signing for Newcastle United.

- Newcastle United have agreed a fee in the region of £12m plus add-ons for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, according to Sky Sports, with the England international set to travel to Tyneside for a medical and personal terms thought not to be a problem. The Magpies aren't stopping there, as the Telegraph have suggested that they are also targeting Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos.

- Juventus have recently made contact with Paris Saint-Germain about the possibility of signing striker Mauro Icardi, according to L'Equipe. While the French giants are open to letting the Argentina international leave, they are only willing to let that happen on a permanent basis, rather than for a loan spell.

- Calciomercato says Napoli, Internazionale and AC Milan are all interested in signing Empoli left-back Fabiano Parisi. However, Empoli feel no need to let players leave in January, so will be looking to keep him until the summer at the very least, as not to offload the 22-year-old before he has had the chance to show his full potential in Serie A.
