TOP STORY: Atletico want to bring Ronaldo back to Madrid

Atletico Madrid are hoping to make space in their squad for Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo by moving Antoine Griezmann out of the club, according to The Times.

Los Rojiblancos are one of the big European sides who have been consistently linked with interest in signing Ronaldo, who has told United he wants to leave this summer in order to play in next season's Champions League. The Mail reported this week that the 37-year-old would be interested in joining Atletico, despite spending nine years at their arch-rivals Real Madrid.

The Spanish club could free up some funds to finance a deal for Ronaldo by getting Griezmann off of their wage bill. The France international is preparing for the second season of a two-year loan from Barcelona, a deal that includes an obligation to make the move permanent for €40m next summer.

While Atletico are trying to move Griezmann, the Mirror reports that United could let Ronaldo leave on loan for a season in order to satisfy his desire for Champions League football in return for him extending his contract by a year until 2024.

Ronaldo is yet to join up with Erik ten Hag's squad for preseason training, and the Guardian reports that United will seek clarity on the No. 7's situation this week before making a decision on his future.

21.25 BST: PSG are wanting some competition behind right-back Achraf Hakimi, and the Daily Mail reports that the club will bring in RB Leipzig's Nordi Mukiele.

The £13m deal will be completed once Mukiele completes a medical examination, with the 24-year-old Frenchman expected to provide depth behind Hakimi.

20.30 BST: According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have given new deals to their Brazilian trio of Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo. 

Militao's new contract will run through 2028 and have a €500m release clause. Vinicius and Rodrygo's respective deals include a eye-catching €1B release clause. 

Madrid wrap up their U.S.-based preseason tour on Tuesday with an exhibition against Club America in San Francisco.

19.30 BST: After spending last season on loan at Lyon, it seems that Tottenham record signing Tanguy Ndombele's future will lie elsewhere.

MediaFoot report that Turkish side Galatasaray will eye a move for the French midfielder in order to boost a side that finished a lowly 13th place in the league. 

After a €50m move from London from Lyon in 2019, Ndombele doesn't seem to part of Antonio Conte's plans. 

18.30 BST: Newly promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest are eyeing Real Betis right-back Alex Moreno, according to Nicolo Schira.

Forest have been busy building up a top-flight squad, especially in the backline positions, having already signed Omar Richards, Giulian Biancone and Neco Williams. 

Moreno was a key piece for Betis as they won the Copa del Rey and finish fifth in the LaLiga standings last season. Should Moreno leave for Forest, then Betis will reportedly look to bring in Miguel Gutierrez from Real Madrid on loan. 

17.46 BST: Sevilla defender Jules Kounde's future appears to be either at Chelsea or Barcelona. But which club would the coveted France international be better off joining?

17.03 BST: Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo still has a role to play for the club next season despite missing preseason because of a family issue.

The 37-year-old -- who has expressed his desire to leave the club this summer to play in the Champions League -- is training alone after being given permission to miss United's preseason tour of Asia and Australia, with no date yet for his return to Carrington.

"I think Cristiano is important for us," Dalot said of his fellow Portugal international. "What we know is he is going through some family issues, we hope everything is OK."

16.18 BST: Jurgen Klopp has said that he does not plan to make any more signings this summer unless his hand is forced.

Liverpool have brought in striker Darwin Nunez and the young duo of midfielder Fabio Carvalho and left-back Calvin Ramsay in this window, while Sadio Mane has left to join Bayern Munich.

"Unless we have injuries or player sales no, we have our squad," Klopp told Sky. "Hopefully, there won't be any so Liverpool supporters can focus on other things."

Klopp added, when asked if he was expecting any more players to leave Anfield: "I don't talk about these things you know that. Look at the results, not the process -- don't forget!"

15.34 BST: Barcelona president Joan Laporta has told ESPN that Lionel Messi's "chapter" at the club is "not over" and considers it his responsibility to ensure the forward has a "more beautiful ending" at the Camp Nou.

Messi ended his 21-year spell at Barca when the club could not afford to renew his contract last summer, with the forward subsequently joining Paris Saint-Germain, who he helped to the Ligue 1 title.

"Messi was everything," Laporta told ESPN. "To Barca, he's been possibly its greatest player, the most efficient. To me he's only comparable to Johan Cruyff. But it had to happen one day. We had to make a decision as a consequence of what we inherited. The institution is in charge of players, coaches.

"I would hope that the Messi chapter isn't over. I think it's our responsibility to try to... find a moment to fix that chapter, which is still open and hasn't closed, so it turns out like it should have, and that it has a more beautiful ending."

Laporta has previously spoken of his desire to return Messi to Barca, where he won the Ballon d'Or on six occasions, as well as holding the club's records for goals (672) and appearances (778.) The Argentina forward has a year remaining on his contact at PSG, with the option of a further year.

"As president of Barca, I did what I had to do. But also as president of Barca, and on a personal level, I think I owe him," he added.

14.47 BST: Inter Milan could extend Romelu Lukaku's loan  for a further season from Chelsea, according to the Telegraph. 

Lukaku has returned to Inter just a year after his goals fired them to the Serie A title and then left them for a second spell at Chelsea. But, after he failed to fit into manager Thomas Tuchel's system,  scoring just eight Premier League goals, the 29-year-old is back in Serie A on a loan deal that is worth €7m for the 2022-23 season.

The Telegraph reports that the subject of extending that loan by another year has already been raised. Should that option be taken up, Lukaku would have two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, making a permanent return to Inter more of a possibility.

13.59 BST: Eden Hazard's three years at Real Madrid have been disrupted by injuries but, he tells ESPN, he feels fully fit and ready to thrive next season.

As Real Madrid begin their preseason tour of the United States -- staying at Los Angeles' Beverly Hills Hotel, and training at the UCLA campus -- Hazard spoke to ESPN's Mauricio Pedroza about his hopes for this season and why he isn't ready to give up on making his time at the club a success.

13.08 BST: West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has admitted he finds transfer speculation surrounding him "annoying."

The England international has been a long-term target of Manchester United and boyhood club Chelsea, but he has been made West Ham's club captain for next season following the retirement of Mark Noble.

The 23-year-old told Sky: "Every time I put on the shirt I go out there and give it 100% and whatever happens off the pitch takes care of itself. I can't control that. What I can control is going out there and trying to be the best player.

"It's annoying because of the numbers that get attached to your name. You can't control that at all, but there's stuff sometimes that you see and you read that you don't want to hear, because it's not really true in a way.

"For the last couple of seasons that's what I've done and that's the faith the manager has put in me, so all that speculation stuff, that's what comes with playing good, I suppose."

12.26 BST: Everton are looking to transfer Dele Alli out of the club just six months after signing him from Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Sun.

Alli joined Everton on a free transfer in January, although the deal is structured with performance and appearance-related clauses that could cost them as much as £40m.

However, only one of the 26-year-old's 11 appearances for the Toffees has been as part of the starting lineup, and that was the 5-1 loss at Arsenal on the final day of the season after the club's Premier League status was already secured.

11.39 BST: Neymar has reiterated his desire to stay at Paris Saint-Germain but said he is unsure what the club plans to do about his future.

Earlier this month, sources told ESPN's Julien Laurens that PSG are open to letting him leave the club this summer with Chelsea interested in the forward. Neymar, 30, featured in the second half of PSG's 3-0 preseason win over Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday. After the game he opened up about his future plans.

"I still want to stay at the club," he said in his postmatch interview. "Until now, the club haven't told me anything so I don't know what their plans are for me."

Neymar's quotes came moments after new PSG manager Christophe Galtier told his postmatch news conference that he was unsure if the Brazil international would remain at the club.

"Neymar has been working well since the start of the season," Galtier said. "He also seems happy to me and he is very fit. I spoke about his situation at a press conference.

"What will happen in the near future, at the end of the transfer market, I don't know... I haven't had an individual interview with him on this aspect. But he doesn't seem unsettled to me about what people are saying about him or his club situation [with how he acts] through the training sessions and the joy he has when he trains."

10.52 BST: Leicester City have told Newcastle United that they would not let midfielder Harvey Barnes go for less than £50m, The Sun reports.

Barnes, 24, has scored 22 goals and registered 24 assists in 112 Premier League appearances since making his first-team debut for the club in 2018.

Newcastle are interested in signing the one-time England international, with Everton's Anthony Gordon another target as they seek to strengthen their options in wide attacking roles.

10.00 BST: Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has said Bayern Munich have been "disrespectful" for talking about the possibility of signing Harry Kane in the future.

Last summer, Kane tried to push through a move to Manchester City, although he remained in north London, scoring 17 goals in 37 Premier League games last season as he helped guide Spurs to Champions League qualification.

German newspaper BILD reported on Saturday that Kane's representatives have been approached by Bayern, with the striker's team refusing to rule out the chance of a transfer.

Bayern are without a striker after the departure of longtime forward Robert Lewandowski, who completed a move to Barcelona on Tuesday.

Speaking after Spurs' 2-1 preseason win over Rangers on Saturday where Kane scored two goals, Conte expressed his disappointment at Bayern talking about his striker publicly.

"I don't know why [Kane is linked with Bayern.] The situation is very clear at Tottenham and Harry is a very important part of the project. I don't like to talk about players from another club. Maybe that's a bit disrespectful for the other club," Conte said.

- Manchester United are set to make an offer for Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries after they offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to Gazetta dello Sport. The 26-year-old joined the Nerazzurri last summer and has three years remaining on his contract. The Serie A side included the defender in negotiations with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku, but the Blues rejected the wing-back as part of the loan deal. The Red Devils reportedly look to fund the signing of the Netherlands international by selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Although Roma are reportedly interested in the 24-year-old defender, they are yet to propose a formal offer, with Crystal Palace also eyeing a move for the England international.

- Juventus are looking to part ways with Adrien Rabiot this summer, and this could involve a swap deal with PSG for Leandro Paredes, as per Tuttosport. The Bianconeri are reportedly requesting a transfer fee between £12.7m to £17m for the 27-year-old, who is one of the squad's highest earners. The midfielder, who has one year left on his current deal, is tipped for a move to France, with Lyon reportedly leading interest. However, the France international could return to PSG after his departure on a free transfer in 2019, as the Italian side look to acquire Paredes from the Ligue 1 champions.

- Bayern Munich have secured a £24.3m deal for Rennes' teenage striker Mathys Tel on a five-year contract, reports Sky Sports Germany. The Bundesliga champions had three bids rejected for the 17-year-old, before coming to an agreement with the Ligue 1 side. The France U17 international is set to complete a medical in the coming days and will reportedly join the German club on their pre-season tour of the United States.

- Nice have approached Leicester for Kasper Schmeichel after failing to secure Yann Sommer, according to L'Equipe. The 35-year-old goalkeeper is reportedly interested in a move, but only if he can part ways with the Foxes amicably after 11 years. The Denmark international has just one year remaining on his contract, as the Ligue 1 side looks to replace Walter Benítez following his free transfer to PSV Eindhoven.
