Manchester United top four, Chelsea fading, Man City, NYCFC, El Clasico

Earlier this week, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said finishing in the top four in the Premier League and making the Champions League next season was a must. His team backed that up with an impressive 3-0 win vs. Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester City missed a glorious opportunity to make up ground on Chelsea over the weekend. Jose Mourinho's men were held to a 1-1 draw vs. Southampton on Sunday, but City could only wonder "what if" after they'd already lost 1-0 to a game Burnley side the previous day.

Jose Mourinho admitted Paris Saint-Germain were the better team in Chelsea's 3-3 aggregate loss to Laurent Blanc's capital club. Despite being up a man for most of the game and extra time, the "Special One" still came up short.

All the fuss during the week in New York was about whether new MLS franchise NYCFC would wreck the field at Yankee Stadium. Fans of the team didn't seem to care as David Villa led them to their first win in the club's brief history.

Real Madrid bounced back from a tumultuous week beating Levante 2-0, while Barcelona topped Eibar by the same score thanks to another sublime Lionel Messi performance. Who cares? It's all about next weekend's Clasico anyway, and the two teams are separated by a mere point in La Liga table.
