The Banker
Peru caused a seismic shock in the semis by beating defending champions Chile 3-0 to book their first Copa America final appearance in 44 years. Waiting for them in Rio de Janeiro will be hosts and red-hot betting favourites Brazil, who have yet to concede a goal in this year's tournament.
Against Chile, Peru looked a team transformed from the one that scored just three goals in four games on their way to the last four. However the bookmakers don't seem to be giving them a chance having factored in that Peru lost 5-0 to Brazil earlier in the tournament.
Brazil are 1/3 to win in 90 minutes but it could be a more tense affair at the Maracana given they have not won the Copa America since 2007. This side has coped admirably without Neymar, with Gabriel Jesus linking up well with Roberto Firmino in attack. However Tite has them well-drilled with the emphasis more on being solid at the back than flamboyant in attack. Nigeria face Cameroon in a mouth-watering African Cup of Nations round-of-16 clash on Saturday and it could pay to back Super Eagle Paul Onuachu to score first. Argentina could be worth a bet at 4/5 to beat Chile in Saturday's third-place playoff. The Albiceleste didn't freeze against Brazil and played arguably their best match of the tournament despite going down 2-0. They hit the woodwork twice and had a couple of decent penalty shouts turned down. If they apply the same level of effort they should be too much for an ageing Chile side in Sao Paulo.
Elsewhere, the Gold Cup final will be the marquee CONCACAF matchup as the United States face Mexico. USA are the defending champions but have a 1-4 record in finals against Mexico, with their last win against El Tri coming in 2007. However this is not a vintage Mexican side and Chelsea new boy Christian Pulisic can inspire the Americans, who are 5/2 outsiders, to victory at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Finally add in hosts Egypt to beat South Africa at 4/7 in the African Cup of Nations round of 16. Bafana Bafana squeezed into the knockout round as the last of the four best third-placed teams and should prove no match against Mohamed Salah's Egypt in front of an expected 75,000 at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.
