Imagine if Arsenal and Manchester United literally had a tug of war for Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez -- whom is your money on, Louis van Gaal or Arsene Wenger?
It's a tough one to call but back on point, it appears Wenger has the upper hand in the pursuit of Sanchez as Arsenal can offer him Champions League football next season, according to the Daily Mail.
David Moyes' staggering ineptitude at United means the 2012-13 champions do not have any European football to speak of for the new season, and that could be a deciding factor in their chase for Sanchez.
The 25-year-old is enjoying a fine World Cup with Chile but could be a victim of new boss Luis Enrique's rebuilding campaign at Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo has some information on the situation, too, and they say Wenger has already held talks with Sanchez's agent.

Herrera to spark United transfer splurge
Ander Herrera should complete his move to Manchester United from Atheltic Bilbao any moment now, and the Daily Mirror reckons it's the start of something big.
That's because they reckon the midfielder is going to be the start of an incredible 200 million pound overhaul with the likes of Luke Shaw (almost definitely), Mats Hummels (doubt it) and Arjen Robben (behave) on Van Gaal's transfer list.
Atleti want Negredo but face disappointment
It appears as though last season's Champions League runners-up will need to rethink their plans for signing Diego Costa's replacement. Costa is seemingly Chelsea-bound, and Atletico Madrid want Manchester City's Alvaro Negredo, according to Marca.
The 28-year-old joined City only last summer and enjoyed a largely positive debut season in England -- and Atleti are desperate for firepower up front.

Would you swamp Monaco for the Midlands? Well, West Brom hope striker Riviere does, as The Birmingham mail says the Frenchman is on their wanted list.
Riviere is also wanted by Stoke City and scored 10 goals in Ligue 1 last season.
