Transfer Rater: Faouzi Ghoulam to Manchester United, Kerem Demirbay to Arsenal

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Faouzi Ghoulam to Manchester United

According to Portuguese publication Record, Napoli are closing in on Alejandro Grimaldo and the move for the left-back could be good news for Manchester United. The former La Masia graduate's arrival in Naples would free up Ghoulam to make the move to Old Trafford. The report suggests Jose Mourinho would sanction a deal for the Algerian full-back, who signed a new deal with the Serie A club at the beginning of December and has a £53 million release clause.

Kerem Demirbay to Arsenal

There's set to be a battle for the signature of Hoffenheim midfielder Demirbay, according to News Mondo. The Milan-based news website claim AC Milan are interested in the 24-year-old but are lagging behind Everton and Arsenal in the race to sign him. It's the latter team leading the chasing pack with Arsene Wenger keen to bring in reinforcements with so much uncertainty over the futures of Meust Ozil and Jack Wilshere.

Jamie Murphy to Rangers

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is closing in on Brighton midfielder Murphy for a fee expected to be north of £1m, according to reports in The Daily Mail. Rangers have acted quickly after reports linked Josh Windass with Preston North End. If Windass did return to England it would leave the Scottish Premier League side short in wide areas, something Murty is keen to avoid. Murphy was left out of the Brighton squad for the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on New Year's day and is keen on a move to his boyhood club.

Diafra Sakho to Swansea City

New Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal is looking to bring in reinforcements this month as he tries to navigate his way out of a relegation battle. According to The Guardian the Swans are looking to bring Andre Ayew back to the club but feel his wage demands may scupper the move. They are said to be much more confident about signing his teammate Diafra Sakho. He fits the transfer strategy Carvalhal has introduced -- the club would target players in this window who are out of favour but have something to prove because they want to go to the World Cup

Marcelo Brozovic to Tottenham Hotspur

Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti is open to selling Brozovic during the January window and Tottenham are monitoring the situation. Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be a long-term admirer and was priced out of a move for the Croatian international during the summer months when the Italian side wanted close to €40m for the midfielder. However, he'd now be available for around €15m according to Sky Italia and could be a shrewd addition to the Tottenham midfield.
