Stoke City striker Peter Crouch to stand in as rock radio DJ

Peter Crouch has never hidden his love of indie and rock music, and can often be spotted watching his favourite bands throughout the season. Let's be honest, you can't exactly miss him in the crowd.

And, at the age 36, it seems Stoke City are happy to let the veteran striker take time out of the club's preseason training programme to host a show on a rock station for two weeks.

Crouch has been best buddies with journalist and Radio X evening show host Gordon Smart for some time, and so when the presenter decided to go on holiday he called on the former England forward to step into the breach.

He will stand in for Smart from next week on Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. BST, as well as on Sunday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m BST. Football fans from around the world will be able to tune in, if they really want to, via the station's website.

The standard radio station blurb from Crouch reads: "I love Radio X and the music the station plays so I'm excited about being in the hot seat. I have a few stories I'm looking forward to sharing and some visitors I'm looking forward to welcoming to the studio. All will be revealed next week!"

This of course gives us the perfect excuse to repost the footage of Crouch crowd-surfing and generally going a bit crazy a Kasabian gig at Brixton Academy in December 2014.

Never let it be said that he isn't a man of the people. There's no hiding away in VIP for Crouchy.
