Italy legend Andrea Pirlo gets his own day in New York City

Every legend has his day, they say (we think). And Dec. 6, 2017 will be forever known as Andrea Pirlo's in New York City.

Yes, friends, New York mayor Bill de Blasio dedicated 24 hours to our favourite midfield maestro/king of cool/whatever-the-heck-he-wants-to-be, who, playing for MLS' New York City FC, called quits on his glittering and indelible playing career last month.

Of the honour, "L'Architetto" -- classy as always -- expressed his deepest gratitude via social media, saying: "I couldn't be more grateful and glad to be part of this celebration day..

"New York is not only the wonderful city where I've decided to retire, this is the city where people work hard every day to reach their goals.

"I couldn't be prouder to inspire all the young newyorkers and to show them that everyone deserves to realize their dreams.

"Thank you Mayor De Blasio for this awesome opportunity."

No, no, no, Andrea. New York thanks YOU!
