Atletico Madrid got exactly what they deserved when they shipped a late goal to Chelsea, going down 2-1 at home in the first ever European game at the new Wanda Metropolitano.
Atleti were second best throughout, and despite taking the lead, never looked comfortable as Eden Hazard dominated the game. Having been pegged back to 1-1 they then failed to see out the game and now have an uphill struggle to even get out of the group.
Positives
Not many. Antoine Griezmann scored a penalty, which he does not always do.
Negatives
Where to start? Second best throughout, the midfield lost almost all their battles and Alvaro Morata ran the defence ragged. Not the start they wanted in Europe in the Wanda era.

3 -- Diego Simeone got it wrong from the start, got out of jail at 1-0 and then 1-1, but handed himself back in and pleaded guilty with his substitutions.

GK Jan Oblak, 6 -- Helpless with the goals. Couple of decent saves in the first period kept Atleti undeservedly in the game.
DF Juanfran, 7 -- One of the few positives. Looked good in defence up against Marcos Alonso and attacked well. Can hold his head high.
DF Lucas Hernandez, 6 -- A tough night, but was by no means the worst performer at the back. Was fouled for the penalty that Griezmann scored.
DF Diego Godin, 5 -- Given a right run around by Morata throughout and did not look his usual comfortable, commanding self, one header on the stroke of half-time aside.
DF Filipe Luis, 5 -- The winner came down his side and probably should have done better with it. A mixed bag going forwards.
MF Koke, 5 -- Lacked his usual composure and was too often bypassed in the press. Ceded dead ball duties to Griezmann -- a strange move considering his delivery ended in the penalty.
MF Thomas Partey, 5 -- Completely outnumbered and outclassed on his own in the middle of the park. Did not know whether to man-mark Hazard or shield the back four and in the end did not really do either. Almost cleared the new stadium's roof with a wayward shot.
MF Saul Niguez, 4 -- When he attempted to play a simple ball to Filipe and it flew straight out of play, you knew it was not his night. Fluffed his lines when presented with an open goal at 1-0 -- that would have no doubt changed the game.
MF Yannick Carrasco, 4 -- Not in the game at all. When he did get involved, he invariably made the wrong decision. Not for the first time in a big game.
FW Antoine Griezmann, 4 -- Scored the penalty, but did very little else. Atleti needed a big game from their main man and he was not up to it.
FW Angel Correa, 5 -- Was always looking to get involved in play and looked dangerous with his turn of pace and low centre of gravity. Unfortunately his teammates were rarely on the same wavelength, but can hold his head high.
Substitutes
Fernando Torres, 5 -- Given a rousing reception by both sets of fans, looked dangerous initially, but then looked nervous when it came to the final ball. Took on a couple of long-range shots and needless to say, they are not his forte.
Nicolas Gaitan, NR -- Not the man you want to bring on at 1-1 when up against it.
Jose Gimenez, NR -- Brought on to help see the result out, he man-marked Hazard well but once the Belgian was subbed he looked a little lost and was out of position for the winner.
