Pep Guardiola has splashed out more than £200 million refreshing his squad this summer and still hopes to bring in two more new faces before the transfer window closes. But the Manchester City boss also needs to make room in his squad for any new arrivals and recuperate some cash from a close season of heavy spending.
So far, City have already raked in more than £40m from the sales of Enes Unal, Aaron Mooy, Nolito, Aleksandar Kolarov and Olivier Ntcham, with Kelechi Iheanacho also set to leave in a £25m deal to Leicester City. And the club has made a hefty saving to its salary bill by allowing several senior players like Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta to leave on free transfers when their contracts expired.
But there will be more departures. Here are the players most likely to leave before the end of September.
Fernando
Sources have told ESPN FC that the 30-year-old is close to agreeing a move to Turkish club Galatasaray. Despite making 101 appearances for City, Fernando has struggled to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium following his £12m move from Porto in 2014.
The Brazilian was not on the preseason tour to the United States and his time looks up after failing to make an impression under Guardiola. He made just five Premier League starts last season -- none since the turn of the year -- and he looked short of adapting to the quick-passing, playmaker role which has more importance for a deep-lying midfielder under Guardiola.
Samir Nasri
The French midfielder was a surprise inclusion on the tour to the United States and made a strong contribution. But his time at the Etihad Stadium looks to be up with Nice linked with a £10m move for the former Arsenal player. Nasri said he turned down Guardiola's request to stay last season, going on loan to Sevilla instead after reporting back to preseason overweight, and his opportunities at City will be reduced further following the arrival of Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva from Monaco.
Eliaquim Mangala
Another player who joined up with the first-team for preseason, Mangala didn't make enough of an impact to convince Guardiola to keep him at the club despite the City boss wanting another centre-back. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Valencia but City will try to secure a permanent switch for a player who has been a major disappointment since his reported £42m move from Porto in 2014.
Wilfried Bony
The Ivorian missed the trip to the United States with a minor injury but is back training with the first-team. However, it's difficult to see much of a future for the striker, who spent last season on loan at Stoke City -- scoring just twice in 11 appearances. ESPN FC has been told that Swansea City are interested in re-signing the 28-year-old, but any deal is dependent on the future of Fernando Llorente, who is a possible target for champions Chelsea. Llorente is likely to miss the start of the season with a broken arm and that may scupper any potential move.
Fabian Delph
The England midfielder has been plagued by injuries since his controversial £8m move from Aston Villa and might need to find a new club. The 27-year-old's big advantage is that he counts as a homegrown, but he has a battle to find a place in midfield with Yaya Toure, the soon-to-be-fit Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho ahead of him. West Brom and Stoke have been linked with moves.
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Guardiola's first signing has not appeared for the club in England after failing to qualify for a work permit. He spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven and could be set for another temporary deal. Napoli is a possible destination, with reports that the Italian club would also like an option to buy the 20-year-old midfielder.
Patrick Roberts
Celtic are keen to sign the England U20 winger after he impressed there last season on loan. He was given an opportunity on City's tour to the U.S. and his future might depend on who arrives at the club, with Guardiola still keen on bringing in another forward. Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez is still the most likely, although that transfer saga looks set to rumble on for some time.
Jason Denayer
The Belgium defender could be set for a fourth consecutive loan move away from the Etihad after spells at Celtic, Galatasaray and Sunderland. However, the 22-year-old is growing increasingly frustrated over his future and was unhappy that City turned down a switch to Lyon, with Spanish side Girona now a more likely destination.
