Sweden women's team shirts to feature inspiring quotes

In lieu of their own names, the Swedish women's team shirts are to feature inspiring messages and quotes during the upcoming Algarve Cup. The words come from prominent Swedish women and are designed to "inspire and motivate women to show that everything is possible".

For example, team captain Lotte Schelin has picked a message from politician Gudrun Schyman:

"The national team shirt is an important symbol and it constantly reminds us that we can win whatever game it is in whatever competitions," said Schelin. "I think it is great that we can join forces with other strong women and that we together can show that everything is possible."

Elsewhere, long-serving midfielder Lisa Dahlkvist has opted for a blunt but powerful message taken from a Tweet by Swedish pop star Zara Larsson.

Jag har valt citatet "Believe in your damn self" av @zaralarsson För att jag vill uppmuntra alla kvinnor att våga ta plats! #IDittNamn

Meanwhile, 23-year-old full-back Magdelena Eriksson has used the opportunity to show her support for budding female players overseas by adopting a statement from television and radio host Agnes Lo Akerlind.

"I have chosen to highlight a quote from Agnes Lo because I play football for all those women who cannot," Eriksson tweeted.

"With the help of the national team, the initiative is first and foremost to highlight the power that comes with doing things together and the women's team's success is a good example of that," said Niklas Bodell, communication director for the Swedish FA. "We also hope that it can inspire people to stand up for each other, notwithstanding who you are or where you come from."

Hear hear. Fantastic stuff.
