Harry Kane fires another hat trick, Spurs finish strong with 7-1 win

The perfect end to a near-perfect season. Days after recording their biggest away Premier League win of the season against Leicester, Spurs went one better by beating Hull 7-1 in the final game of the season. Tottenham were rampant throughout, scoring three goals in the first half and a further four in the second. Harry Kane notched up yet another hat trick, with Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama, Ben Davies and Toby Alderweireld scoring the others.

Positives

Yet again, Spurs showed that even when there was little to play for except pride, they could turn on the style and the intensity for the fans. Harry Kane collected the Golden Boot for the second season running. Spurs fans also won the appreciation of the home crowd by chanting Ryan Mason's name. The former Spurs player suffered a bad head injury earlier in the season.

Negatives

It's hard to have any justifiable complaints about a 7-1 win. However, Hugo Llloris will be disappointed to have conceded. One more clean sheet would have seen him take the title of most clean sheets in the season. Instead, he will just have to settle for conceding the fewest goals.

Manager Rating (out of 10)

8 -- To motivate a team that had already secured second place to another convincing win twice in three days is a measure of the respect in which Mauricio Pochettino is held by the players. For two defenders to score the last two goals of the season in the dying minutes is a sign of a team with a killer instinct. Now to go one better next year.

Player ratings (1-10; 10=best; players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating):

GK Hugo Lloris, 7 -- Had little to do in the first half, and made one great save from a Tom Huddlestone pile-driver in the second. Had no chance with Hull's consolation goal but will still be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet.

DF Kieran Trippier, 8 -- Back in the side after suffering from concussion, Trippier was a constant threat in attack. Created two of the Spurs' goals and, assuming Kyle Walker does stay -- by no means a given, must be Pochettino's first choice at right-back next season.

DF Toby Alderweireld, 8 -- He'd waited all season for a goal and he finally got one with minutes to spare. It was no more than he deserved. He may have had one of his easier afternoons but he and Jan Vertonghen have been the two best central defenders in the country by a long way.

DF Eric Dier, 8 -- Another strong showing from the England international. He might prefer to be playing further forward as a defensive midfielder but he has stuck to his allotted job well throughout the season. Now to persuade him that his best interests lie in him remaining at Spurs.

DF Jan Vertonghen, 8 -- One slight lapse in concentration midway through the second half, but otherwise yet another accomplished performance. Would make most pundits Premier league team of the season.

DF Ben Davies, 8 -- One of Spurs' unsung heroes. Many, myself included, feared the worst when Danny Rose was injured in late January but he has proved everyone wrong. Both his defensive and attacking play have improved markedly and it was a pleasure to see him get his name on the score sheet.

MF Victor Wanyama, 8 -- The Kenyan's ability to sense trouble and get himself in a position to snuff it out has been one of the key factors in Spurs success. Another game in which he controlled the defensive midfield and allowed the playmakers the freedom to express themselves.

MF Christian Eriksen, 8 -- Created several goals and time and again managed to find pockets of space at the heart of the Hull defence. Was at the heart of all Spurs' most attacking moves

MF Son Heung-min, 8 -- A tireless and unselfish display from one of the most improved players in the Tottenham XI. Came close to scoring, but like many in the team, seemed more interested in making sure Kane got the Golden Boot.

MF Dele Alli, 8 -- Scored a goal of pure class with a fabulous dummy deep into injury time in the first half. Also came close to providing the assist of the season with a delicate back-heel performed whilst sprinting towards goal

FW Harry Kane, 9 -- There are few superlatives left for Kane. He might enjoy the assistance of some of the Premier League's most creative footballers playing alongside him, but he still has to put the ball in the net. And he does with terrifying regularity. Scored three and could have had more.
