CSKA Moscow's Igor Akinfeev keeps first UCL clean sheet since 2006

Igor Akinfeev kept his first Champions League clean sheet in more than 11 years as CSKA Moscow beat Benfica 2-0 on Wednesday.

CSKA boosted their hopes of qualification from Group A with the victory, which was secured by Georgi Schennikov's opener and an own goal from Jardel.

Akinfeev ensured Benfica were unable to make a fight of it by keeping his first clean sheet in the Champions League since Nov. 1, 2006 -- not including qualifiers -- ending a run of 43 games without one.

The last team unable to find a way past the 31-year-old in Europe's top club competition was Arsenal during their 0-0 draw with CSKA.

CSKA sit third in Group A following Wednesday's result, three points behind leaders Manchester United and below second-placed Basel by virtue of their inferior head-to-head record.

The Russian side face United at Old Trafford in their final group fixture on Dec. 5.
