England captain Kane impressed with Hudson-Odoi in first training session

England captain Harry Kane said Callum Hudson-Odoi has looked "hungry" in training after receiving his first international call up by boss Gareth Southgate.

The Tottenham forward was speaking to the press at St. George's park on Tuesday afternoon, and said he was impressed with the new additions to the squad, but in particular 18-year-old Hudson-Odoi.

The Chelsea winger, who won the under-17 World Cup with England in 2017, is yet to start a Premier League game for this season, but was called up to the senior team this week.

"He's been great," Kane said of Hudson-Odoi. "He trained the last couple of days, he's a great guy to talk to and get to know. He wants to take full advantage of his opportunity.

"He looked like he was enjoying it out there today, scoring a few goals in training. He looks sharp and hungry, like he wants to improve, score goals, get assists. That's what you want.

"The youth aren't scared to go and express themselves, one vs. one. As an England team we want to have that flair and flexibility. It is a great sign in this country that we are producing these type of players.

"Callum has had a taste of cup competitions, a little bit in the Premier League. I'm sure he wants to play and get that experience at the highest level. We'll see how his career progresses, if he does that at Chelsea or another team on loan."

Kane said he has also enjoyed getting to know West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who represented the Republic of Ireland three times at senior level but decided this month to make himself available for England.

The 20-year-old was immediately rewarded with a call up to Southgate's squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro.

"I'm sure it was tough for him [to decide on England]," Kane said. "He seems like a great lad, really enjoying the season he's been having so far.

"He took the time with his family and close friends and the decision he made is one he thinks will be best for his future and no one can blame him for that. I can tell just by being with him for a couple of days he will give everything for his country."

Kane also said 18-year-old winger Jadon Sancho, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, had shown his confidence in training this week.

"We had a penalty shootout and [Sancho] chipped his down the middle. He has a bit of bottle and that's what we want."
