Arouna Kone injury 'not serious' - Everton

Everton striker Arouna Kone's knee injury is not a long-term problem, the club have said.

The Ivory Coast international, though, remains a doubt for the club's next Premier League match, at home to Southampton on April 4.

Kone was injured in the build-up to Aaron Lennon's decisive goal in a 2-1 league victory at Queens Park Rangers last Sunday.

The 31-year-old did not make a first-team appearance for 14 months after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage in October 2013.

But Everton have indicated that there are no concerns about a similar injury, having carried out a scan.

The club said in a statement on their official website: "A scan has confirmed that Arouna Kone's knee injury is not serious.

"But it is not yet known whether he will be fit for Everton's next game, against Southampton."

Meanwhile, Everton allowed two fringe midfielders to go out on loan on Thursday, the final day of the Football League's spring emergency loan window.

Francisco Junior, 23, has moved to League One side Port Vale, while George Green, 19, has joined Tranmere Rovers in League Two.

Under the emergency loan system, clubs in the three divisions immediately below the Premier League are allowed to borrow players from other English teams outside the standard transfer window.
