France midfielder Paul Pogba targets Lilian Thuram's appearance record

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has his sights set on beating Lilian Thuram's appearance record for France having played what in his own words was his best ever season.

Pogba, 23, has represented his country 29 times since debuting in March 2013 and he still has a long way to go to catch former Juve defender Thuram, who played 142 times for Les Bleus.

"I don't dream of one day becoming captain of France," he told RMC Sport. "I dream of having a very great career and having lots of caps. I want to beat Thuram's record, be a great player for the French team and to win everything."

Pogba once again won the Italian Serie A title with Juve this season. He has won the title in each of his four seasons in Turin, although he says the most recent triumph has been his best.

"I'm satisfied with my season," he said. "I think I've improved and the statistics -- the assists and goals -- confirm this. I've beaten all of my records this year and I'm pretty proud of myself.

"I'm taking more risks now because there are fewer of us to do so. Before we had [Andrea] Pirlo, [Arturo] Vidal and [Carlos] Tevez and now I take control of the game a bit more, even if experienced players like [Sami] Khedira and [Mario] Mandzukic have arrived.

"It's true that I should have given a bit more to the team. I always want to get better and when I'm playing, I don't try to impress the fans, I just play my football. That's the way I've always been.

"People say that I get carried away at times, but this is Paul Pogba. If anything, I've got to improve in the way I do certain things at the right time. I'm still young and I'm looking for perfection, and I hope to reach it."

Pogba has scored eight goals in 34 Serie A appearances this season, the same number he scored last season and one more than in 2013-14. He found the back of the net just once in eight Champions League outings, as he had also in 2014-15.
