Genoa's Darko Lazovic: 'Strange' finishing Fiorentina game 3 months on

Genoa midfielder Darko Lazovic admits it was "a bit strange" playing the remaining 62 minutes of their 1-0 win against Fiorentina on Thursday -- over three months after it first kicked off.

The Serie A fixture originally took place on Sept. 11 but was suspended after 28 minutes due to a severe hailstorm.

The game at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris was finally finished on Thursday, with just the remaining 62 minutes being played, and Lazovic scored the winner for Genoa in the 37th minute.

"It was a bit strange to commence the match at 28 minutes, but we prepared the game as if we had to start it from the very first minute," Lazovic said.

"We did really well in what we could call the 'first half' and produced a strong performance, scoring a goal. In the second half we slowed down a little and they [Fiorentina] played well, but the important thing is that we won."

Thursday's action resumed exactly where it had been stopped in September -- with a goal kick by Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin.

The remaining 62 minutes could only be played this week due to Fiorentina's busy Europa League schedule and also saw a change of referees as Luca Banti, who decided to suspend the match in September, was unwell and had to be replaced by Marco Guida.
