U.S. defender Timothy Chandler set to return to Frankfurt after Cuba game

Timothy Chandler is set to return to Germany following United States' friendly with Cuba, Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner has confirmed to Bild.

Chandler, 26, was called up to the U.S. team after missing the 2016 Copa Centenario with an injury. The Frankfurt full-back travelled to the States last week, but will return to Germany after the Cuba match.

Following a phone call between U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann and Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac, U.S. Soccer agreed to allow Chandler an early return. "They obliged. Timmy will be back on Monday," Bruno Hubner, Frankfurt's sporting director, told Bild.

Frankfurt will also be able to welcome back Mexico international Marco Fabian, 27, following their match against New Zealand on Saturday, Hubner said. "We can now prepare for the Bayern match. It fits perfectly," he told the paper.

Six matchdays into the season, Frankfurt have already picked up 10 points, and taken seven points from their three home games against Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin.

Chandler has started in the last five games after coming off the bench in the 1-0 win against Schalke on matchday one. Fabian has scored two goals and recorded a further two assists in his four starts for Frankfurt. He did not feature in the first two league games.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Hertha defender John Brooks will also be allowed to leave the national side early to have a full preparation for their key match at Borussia Dortmund on Oct. 14.
