Leverkusen's Kevin Volland suffers broken hand in Germany friendly

Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland will be out for at least two weeks after he broke his hand in Germany's friendly victory over Finland.

Volland, 24, sustained the injury during Wednesday's 2-0 win and is set to miss Sunday's World Cup qualifier in Norway as well as Leverkusen's Bundesliga game at home to Hamburg and Champions League opener against CSKA Moscow, the club announced.

Volland -- who became Leverkusen's record signing this summer -- is the second Leverkusen striker to break his hand this summer, with Mexico international Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez having to undergo surgery for a similar injury after falling down the stairs in his house last month.

Hernandez hopes to be ready to face Hamburg on Sept. 10, with the CSKA Moscow clash following four days later, but Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt said the former Manchester United striker is facing a race against time.
