Henrik Larsson leaves Helsingborg following relegation

Henrik Larsson has left Helsingborg following their relegation from the Swedish top flight on Sunday.

Larsson, 45, took charge of his hometown club in 2015 and had spoken of fears for his safety following the club's demotion after his son, a striker for Helsingborg, was attacked after the defeat to Halmstad.

The former Celtic, Manchester United and Barcelona striker had said he intended to stay on as manager but his departure was announced in an official statement on Wednesday which said the decision was made mutually between the board of directors and Larsson.

Swedish website Fotbollskanalen reports that Larsson, who was contracted for next season, has waived his right to financial remuneration in order to aid Helsingborg in returning to the Swedish Allsvenskan as soon as possible.
