South Korea set new clean sheet record in friendly victory over Thailand

South Korea set a new record for clean sheets as they beat Thailand 1-0 in a friendly on Sunday.

Striker Suk Hyun-jun secured the victory when he scored an outstanding goal to break the deadlock in Bangkok before half-time.

The Porto player took advantage of a slip by the defender in front of him to fire a spectacular strike into the roof of the net from outside the area.

But the defenders took the plaudits as, despite a couple of scares after the break, they notched an eighth clean sheet in succession.

That beat South Korea's previous best tally of seven, a run achieved in both 1978 and 1989.

Uli Stielike's side had been due to play Kuwait on Tuesday in their final Group G match in the second Asian qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup.

But the ongoing suspension of Kuwait from international competition meant the Korea Football Association organised the friendly fixture instead.
