Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will learn on Friday whether the investigation into him as part of the alleged attempted extortion of France teammate Mathieu Valbuena will be dropped, according to a report.
Benzema, 28, is one of five men under investigation by police after it was alleged they were involved in an attempt to extort Valbuena, 32, over a sex tape.
L'Equipe reports that a demand was made by the defence team of one of the defendants in April that the case be dismissed, and a court in Versailles will now examine that request.
Defence lawyers say that a police officer, posing as a friend of Valbuena, pushed the men into illegality.
Benzema is accused of being complicit to attempted blackmail after reportedly meeting with Valbuena to discuss the matter while the pair were on international duty.
