Spezia rally to eliminate top-flight Udinese from Coppa Italia

Spezia caused an upset by knocking Udinese out of the Coppa Italia on Saturday.

The Serie B side came from behind to win 3-2 and make it the worst possible start for new Bianconeri Friuliani coach Beppe Iachini.

Rodrigo De Paul put Udinese ahead but goals from Nahuel Valentini and David Okereke turned the game on its head. Duvan Zapata squandered the chance to bring the Serie A side level when his penalty was saved and Nene punished them further by extending Spezia's lead.

Zapata did make amends with a headed goal but it was too little too late.

Pescara beat Frosinone 2-0 thanks to a brace from midfielder Valerio Verre and Massimo Maccarone netted both goals in Empoli's 2-0 victory over Vicenza.

Adem Ljajic, Josef Martinez, Bruno Peres and Lucas Boye were on target for Torino as they were 4-1 winners at home to Pro Vercelli, who pulled a goal back through Andrea La Mantia.

Elsewhere, veteran Sergio Pellissier was among the goal scorers as Chievo cruised pas Virtus Entella 3-0 and Atalanta comfortably beat Cremonese by the same scoreline.

In games between Serie B sides, a Rolando Bianchi brace helped 10-man Perugia stun Carpi 2-1, while Novara beat Latina 1-0 in extra time and Cesena topped Ternana 2-0.
