AC Milan could still clinch the signing of Juan Iturbe from Hellas Verona, general manager Adriano Galliani has said.

Juventus appear to have edged ahead in the race to sign the Argentine forward -- but their failure to wrap up a deal has left the Rossoneri waiting in the wings.

Milan were originally reported to have been priced out of the running but could yet steal the player from under Juve's noses.

"Let's just wait and see," Galliani told reporters at the club's Milanello training ground when asked whether Milan still had a chance of signing the 21-year-old, who is valued at 25 million euros.

Milan had pulled out of the bidding for Iturbe at 20 million but have since freed up further funds by reducing their wage bill after sending Valter Birsa on loan to Chievo.

"I'm delighted to be here," Birsa told his new club's official website. "I come here after a season in which I had a good first half, and now I will give the best I've got to pay back the faith shown in me."

Last Thursday, Iturbe had tweeted that a Juventus deal was on the brink of completion, saying only a little more patience was needed.

But although Juve have brought in six million euros from the sale of Mirko Vucinic to Al-Jazeera, they remain reluctant to pay what they feel would be an excessive fee.
