Newcastle are reported to be closing in on a deal for Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere as boss Alan Pardew looks to strengthen his frontline.

- Duffy: Pressure is on Pardew to deliver

Press Association Sport reported that the clubs have reached agreement over a 4.7 million pound deal for the 24-year-old.

If the move goes through, Riviere would become Pardew's fifth signing of the summer.

Netherlands defender Daryl Janmaat is also reportedly poised to complete a switch to Tyneside from Feyenoord.

Meanwhile, Montpellier owner Louis Nicollin has told Remy Cabella, who moved to Newcastle from the Ligue 1 club: "I wouldn't go there."

Cabella, 24, signed a six-year deal with the Magpies on Sunday, and Nicollin told footmercato.net: "He wanted to go there. Because I like the little guy, I told him 'Bravo'.

"In England, there is Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United who are better than Newcastle, but Newcastle is a club with a lot of French players.

"He likes that -- all the better for him. Personally, I wouldn't go to Newcastle.

"But in any case, he has the ability to succeed in England. That's certain."
