Henrik Larsson appointed Helsingborg boss after Falkenberg exit

Henrik Larsson has been named as manager of Swedish side Helsingborg.

The club announced the appointment of the former Celtic and Barcelona striker on their official website on Monday after he had stepped down as coach of Falkenberg.

The 43-year-old made his name at Helsingborg, who are seven-time winners of the Allsvenskan, most recently in 2011. Although they have finished no higher than fifth since then.

The former Sweden international also returned to the club towards the end of his playing career.

Larsson's departure from Falkenberg was announced earlier on Monday. He defied expectations by leading the Swedish minnows to safety in the Allsvenskan in what the club described as their "most successful season ever."

"Henrik Larsson has informed us that he will not extend the contract," Falkenberg sporting director Hakan Nilsson said in a statement on the club's website.

"We would have liked to continue but respect obviously his decision."
