Monaco's Lucas Ocampos may join Marseille

Monaco could sell Argentine winger Lucas Ocampos on the final day of the winter transfer window with Marseille leading the race to sign him.

Ocampos, 20, became the most expensive player in Ligue 2 history when he joined Monaco from River Plate for 11 million euros in 2012.

Though tipped as a future great, the youngster has not fully established himself at the Stade Louis II, making just seven starts this season under coach Leonardo Jardim.

"There's interest from Marseille and other clubs," Monaco's sporting director Vadim Vasilyev said. "I understand Lucas wants to play more. We listen to our players, but you'll have to wait until midnight."

RMC reported on Sunday that Monaco had actually approached Marseille about taking Ocampos on loan with a view to signing him on a permanent basis in the summer. The radio station added OM would not be able to take on Ocampos' 100,000 euro-a-month salary without reducing their own squad first.

Ocampos featured in 34 league games as Monaco finished runners-up in the French top flight last season, but was in the starting XI only 11 times.
