Manchester United hand two-week trial to Southport's Andrew Lewis

Manchester United have taken Southport forward Andrew Lewis on trial, sources have told ESPN FC.

Lewis, who was on the books at Tranmere Rovers until the age of 14, has impressed for the Conference club's reserve team this season.

The 19-year-old has scored 38 goals, and his record has alerted a host of sides higher up the football pyramid.

Everton, Burnley and Blackburn have all cast an eye over Lewis and were keen to take the 6ft 1in player on trial in order to have a closer look at him.

However, United have stolen a march on their rivals by offering Lewis a two-week trial spell.

If he impresses during his stint at United, he could be offered a permanent deal.

The Old Trafford club are looking to bolster their youth ranks and are scouring non-league for promising talent, having signed Salford City's Sadiq El Fitouri on an 18-month deal earlier this year.
