Ron-Robert Zieler chose Leicester City over Bundesliga and La Liga

Leicester City goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler chose the "huge challenge" of a move to the Premier League over the opportunity to stay in the Bundesliga or a switch to La Liga.

Zieler, 27, signed a four-year deal after but has had to wait for an opportunity to play after being an ever-present for Hannover over the last five seasons.

"There were several options in the summer," he told kicker. "Spain, and also the Bundesliga. Leicester was a snap chance, a huge challenge. And it still is.

"Everything needs time, and I also want to relish it a bit. I will cut my path here, and it's already working out okay. You can never say what will be in six months or a year."

Zieler has featured in the Premier League wins over Swansea and Burnley and the EFL Cup defeat against Chelsea in the absence of Kasper Schmeichel, who is injured.

The Germany international, who was part of the 2014 World Cup-winning squad, found it a strange adjustment not being first choice but it is something he expected.

"That's not a problem," he said. "But after constantly playing at Hannover the bench felt a bit strange for me. I'll admit that.

"It was clear that Kasper Schmeichel would have an advantage after his last season. I just need to be ready when I am needed."

Next up is a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, the club where Zieler began his career and he could again be called upon to deputise for Schmeichel.

He said: "Old Trafford still very much present [in my life]. I've seen many games in the stadium.

"It's a great feeling to return now, even though I don't know that many people there after six years. And every match is a highlight here in England.

"It's a very strong league. Even the small clubs are able to field good teams with the big funds they have.

"Everyone's highly motivated against us because we are the champions and need to prove it week in, week out. We are managing it quite well by now."
