Emre Can wants to be a No. 23 legend 'like Beckham, Jordan and Carragher'

Emre Can wants to become a legend at Liverpool after picking up the club's Young Player of the Year award on Thursday night.

Can, 22, signed for Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2014 and has been a revelation under new manager Jurgen Klopp since being moved into his preferred central midfield position.

The Germany international was utilised in a back-three under previous coach Brendan Rodgers and was handed the prestigious No. 23 shirt -- previously worn by Anfield stalwart Jamie Carragher.

"It was huge -- I'm very proud that I can have the number," Can told BBC Football Focus. "I know that Carragher is a legend here at Liverpool and hopefully I will be a legend as well.

"If you see the No. 23, a lot of legends have had the number, like Michael Jordan, Carragher and [David] Beckham.

"I want to be a legend as well one day and that is why I try always to give me best and we will see what happens."

Liverpool take on West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the season before taking on Sevilla in Basel in Wednesday's Europa League final.
