Lyon's Mathieu Valbuena rubbishes rumours that he had passed away

Lyon midfielder Mathieu Valbuena has posted an image of himself building up his fitness following talk on social media that he had died.

Rumours that Valbuena, 32, had passed away circulated on social media on Sunday night, with Twitter users spreading the lie while attempting to pose as footballers.

However, the France international, who is currently recovering from a dislocated shoulder, dispelled such talk with a post on Instagram on Monday.

"Back to training. It's a good thing. Looking forward to getting back on the pitch," Valbuena wrote alongside an image of him sitting on an exercise bike at Lyon's training centre.

Reprise de l'entraînement. Ça fait du bien. Hâte de retrouver les terrains. #TeamOL

Lyon had already denied the rumours, confirming via their official Twitter account that the former Marseille man was "very much alive."

The Ligue 1 club also condemned those who started the rumour, stating that they were "horrified at such a shameful and inhuman act."
