Lyon's Nabil Fekir on failed Liverpool move: It's ancient history

Lyon's Nabil Fekir has moved on from his failed summer move to Liverpool and has branded the episode "ancient history."

The France international, 25, was reportedly close to a move to Anfield before the World Cup but the transfer abruptly stalled and talks never resumed after Les Bleus' success.

Fekir, who played 68 minutes for the French in Russia, was speaking in the mixed zone after playing the final 12 minutes of Lyon's 2-0 home win over Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on Friday.

"Yes, the failed Liverpool move has been totally digested," he said. "These things can happen.

"That is how it is. You have to move on -- it is ancient history."

Regarding the reasons for the aborted move, Fekir admitted that it remains a mystery to him and laid the blame firmly at Liverpool's door.

"I heard a few things," he said. "The real reason, though, only they [Liverpool] know."

Last season, Fekir scored 18 goals and added seven assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances.
