Manchester United's Paddy McNair signs new contract until 2017

Paddy McNair has been rewarded for his progress at Manchester United with a new two-and-a-half year contract.

McNair, 19, has put pen to paper to stay at Old Trafford until 2017 after breaking through to the first team this season.

The Northern Ireland under-21 international made his debut against West Ham in September and has gone on to make 12 appearances at either centre-back or right-back.

McNair said: "To make my debut for this great club earlier this season was a dream come true. I'm pleased to have signed a new contract. I have come through the academy here and I feel I am improving my game all the time with the help of the manager, the coaching staff and my teammates."

Manager Louis van Gaal added: "Paddy has risen through the ranks to become an integral part of the first team squad.

"He has all the attributes to develop into a top player. Promoting youth players is very important both to myself and to the club and I am delighted Paddy has signed a new contract."

Van Gaal said last week that McNair has the potential to be United's right-back for the next decade.
