Manchester United announce preseason friendly against Valerenga

Manchester United have added a sixth game to their preseason tour this summer after announcing a friendly against Norwegian side Valerenga in Oslo on July 30.

The clash will come four days after the conclusion of United's tour of the United States with a game against Spanish giants Barcelona in Washington DC on July 26.

United are set to head to America on July 9 ahead of games against LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The venue for the Manchester derby on July 20 has still not been officially confirmed, although it is likely to be Houston, Texas.

It will be the third time in four years United have prepared for a new season in the U.S.

Last summer's tour of China saw a scheduled game against City in Beijing cancelled because of a poor pitch at the Bird's Nest Stadium.

United executive vice-chairman said Ed Woodward said of this summer's plans: "The team will have access to top-class facilities and the number of games this summer ensures that the manager and squad have the best opportunity to prepare for the coming season.

"Playing games across a number of locations gives our unrivalled fans the opportunity to watch the team play, with the club being fortunate to have such fantastic support right across the world."

United are set to meet Valerenga in the 28,000-seater Ullevaal Stadium. They also played a friendly in Europe last summer, beating Galatasaray 5-2 in Gothenburg.

The 2017-18 Premier League season is scheduled to start on Aug. 12.
