Nick Ansell returns to Melbourne Victory from Portugal's Tondela

Melbourne Victory are welcoming Nick Ansell back to the club on a two-year deal after the defender's season abroad in Portugal's Primeira Liga.

The 24-year-old, who played in the 2014-15 Victory premiership and championship side, has returned from Tondela and has started preseason training.

Ansell completes head coach Kevin Muscat's defensive set-up, with Muscat positive he would slot back in seamlessly at the club.

"We identified defence as an area we wanted to bolster so I'm delighted to have secured so many quality signings this early in the off-season," Muscat said in a statement on Friday.

"It gives us plenty of time to work with the new boys, plus Tommy Deng, to ensure everyone is ready to go for round one."

Victory's defence has been boosted with the signings of experienced German defender Georg Niedermeier, as well as Storm Roux and Corey Brown.
