Liga MX investigating allegation of racist abuse in Santos-Atletico San Luis match

Santos Laguna president Dante Elizalde has claimed Atletico San Luis striker German Berterame was the individual that allegedly made a racist remark to Felix Torres.

Torres, the Santos Laguna defender, stated he was racially abused during his team's 1-0 defeat at Atletico San Luis in Mexico's Liga MX game last week.

The Ecuador international was sent off late in the game for pushing a ball boy.

Elizalde told ESPN that Argentinian Berterame, who had been substituted 11 minutes prior to Torres' sending-off, was the player that racially abused Torres.

Atletico San Luis have presented at least three videos related to the incident. However, the insults that are clearly heard are directed at referee Adonai Escobedo and not Torres.

In one of the videos, Torres is seen asking the ball boy on three occasions to pass him the ball before he was sent off.

The Mexican League is investigating the incident and its president, Mikel Arriola, said that once completed, the corresponding punishments would be handed out to avoid any "future repetition of those deplorable remarks."
