Impact acquires Nigerian striker Orji Okonkwo on loan from Bologna

The Montreal Impact have acquired Nigerian forward Orji Okwonkwo on loan from Italian club Bologna FC for the 2019 season, the MLS side announced Tuesday.

Okwonkwo, 21, scored three goals in 27 Serie A appearances (four starts) with Bologna since joining the team in 2016.

"I'm satisfied in welcoming another striker to the team," Impact head coach Remi Garde said in a statement. "Orji Okwonkwo is a young player scouted by Bologna three years ago who will help reinforce the team offensively. He's a strong and quick forward who has an interesting margin of progression. I would like to welcome him to the team."

In 2015, Okwonkwo played for the Nigerian team that won the U17 World Cup. He appeared in five matches and scored one goal.

The Impact open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes.
